Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I am an SSI recipient I do have a payee that’s receiving my checks where would my stimulus check go will it come to me in a paper form or will it go to my payee please respond and let me know

    • Peter

Wishful thinking lead you to that question, the payee gets it for you and will distribute it accordingly ! And the payee can hold onto to it for as long as they like, be your own payee some maybe sick but don’t have to a payee! , a Doctors note only can make you become your own payee so long as doc dont work with the payee co. Business

It’s disheartening that people who have very legitimate concerns cannot get any kind of answers. All replies are the same cut and paste directive to the IRS website that tells us nothing. For those who busted their butts trying to work the impossible IRS system to claim their dependents, and got confirmation have turned around simply to receive nothing for those dependents, and the website now says they have to wait until 2021 and claim them on 2020 taxes to get the extra stimulus.

Then there are those of us, like myself, who have no dependents, and were told we need not do anything because our SSA-1099 was good enough. No information, says the IRS, and still no payment! But payments to dead people have been done enough that news outlets had had to caution people to send them back, do not spend them. We are worth answers, and I would think that SSA would care and want to know that people are not receiving payments at all, or not for their dependents. Just sad.

Thank you very well said, im disabled ssdi, added my 4and2 year olds by the 4/22 deadline to only get my deposit for me only, it hurts to see ppl at Walmart buying the store up with their kids and my children are in the car, but feels like they’re forgotten bc my 1200 was gone for bills.. I have no choice to be sick, its hard for me to not work and live on 1000 month. Just thought I’d be able to get ahead and then it’d be better for awhile! My fiance also is nothing yet, on get my payment portal…shhheew.
