Last Updated: August 19, 2021
Just arrived! Social Security is happy to announce the top baby names for 2018. We’re with you from day one, which makes us the source for the most popular baby names! For most people, Social Security starts at birth when they get their first Social Security card. We’re able to determine the most popular baby names from the prior year based on requests for Social Security numbers for newborns. And every year, the top 10 names for boys and girls can reflect cultural shifts during the prior year.
What were 2018’s most popular names?
Coming in at number 10 are Logan and Evelyn, dropping down five spots and one spot in comparison to the 2017 list, respectively. At number nine, Mason and Harper. Mason dropped from its number seven spot in 2017, and this is Harper’s highest spot on the list so far! You can read the rest of the top 10 on our baby names page!
The birth or adoption of a child is a special time for families. Most parents apply for their child’s Social Security number and card at birth, usually through the hospital. They’ll need their number throughout many important stages in their life, beginning with when you claim them on your tax return. It’ll also be useful if you need to apply for benefits for your child. We offer a wide range of resources for families with children. And, when the time comes for their first job, their number is already in place.
Visit our baby names page to see how popular your name or your child’s name was over the past 100 years! Share it with friends and family members who may be expecting a child or grandchild. Maybe they’ll find a name on our list that they love, thanks to you!
