Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

It is senseless information to say that 90% of beneficiaries will receive immediate relief from Federal taxes, it does not list specifics and not even close to the bill that was brought before congress in 2023 to eliminate taxes on Social Security, I mean where is my interest rate earnings on the money I and my employers have invested?
This administration posting more false information is an embarrassment to our country and our intelligence.

Married filing jointly, we used to get back $2400 from federal, when hubby went on SS, it dropped to getting back $600. Now that I collect SS at the age of 67 and still work FT, we had to pay over $1k to Uncle Sam for the first time in our life.
How will this bill help us now? Will we still have to pay out over $1k? Or less…..or nothing!

It is a politically motivated blatant statement of fiction and no truth in it.

I have never seen such an ungrateful bunch of people. Be thankful you are getting a tax deduction period.

Once again, the Trump administration and his sycophants try to gaslight America. I wish that there was an easy way to do a time value of money on my remaining benefits and just get the f* out of America. The Trump Administration is ruining this country for all Americans. It doesn’t matter which demographic that you’re in. I’m an honorably discharged military veteran who graduated from a US Service Academy. I’m sick and tired of Trump and his criminal henchmen trying to steal from us.

It’s misleading as it increases the deduction for anyone 65 or older. So it reduces your tax liability but it’s not specifically tied to your social security benefit. In other words your social security taxable benefit isn’t reduced but your taxable income is.

No one is applauding the fact that this bill takes from the poor and gives to the rich. You can try to sugarcoat these changes … and some may be taken in … but the CBO has been clear about how badly this bill damages the future of our once great nation. You haven’t fooled anyone and the idea that an email to current Social Security recipients trying to dupe them into believing that this Administration is working for them is preposterous. It is simply shameful.

Each time SS increases have occurred for my Dad, his Medicare and secondary insurance rates increase, taking that which would otherwise benefit him. Something needs to change here for our seniors.

What I’m hoping to see is a calculator on the ssa page and examples of how this deduction equates to eliminating tax.

Misleading partisan political statement that has no place on a government website. Whatever time and effort was expended to post this and send the similar email was not only wasted but an insult to the American people. Anyone associated with the production of this garbage should be fired.
