Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

    FROM AI ANALYSIS:

This statement is partially accurate; while the new law does include a provision to increase the standard deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, it does not eliminate federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries.

    Key points to understand:

    No complete elimination of taxes:
The law increases the deduction amount for seniors, which means a portion of their Social Security benefits may not be taxable, but it does not entirely eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits for everyone.

    Focus on increased deduction:

The main change is the enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, which applies to all income, not just Social Security benefits.

I agree. The email we received is way to vague, and I suspect, giving a false sense of having taxes on SS eliminated.

This is a useless article without the details. This is nothing more than a broad political statement one would expect to hear from our politicians but NOT from the Social Security Administration.

I have been receiving Social Security for a number of years and could always count on the agency to provide clear, non-political information – that is, until now. Your shameless sycophancy is nothing short of pathetic.

So comforting to know that the SSA is happy about the passage of the bill. I would love to know who’s responsible for sending that email so I can personally thank them. Good to know the SSA hires anyone, obviously regardless of political affiliation, and with absolutely no standards in regard to cognitive ability.

I’m guessing you are also excited about kids not eating lunch. It’s a great money saver! Plus people who don’t have food won’t be obese! MAHA👍

When you lose your job and are homeless, you don’t have to pay utility bills – so much winning! And when you can’t afford your medical care and die, all your bills are handled 🤗 No need to worry about the afterlife either-we are already living in hell. And it’s going to start getting hotter.

Will My Monthly Social Security Check take home increase due to no Taxes being removed from my Check. Or will I have to wait until I file my Taxes to receive a Lump Sum Refund of taxes deducted from my monthly check?

I am 77 years old, started taking Social security at age 66. Prior to that I served in law enforcement for 30 years, received a pension for my service. I also served in the Military, served in the army during the Vietnam war and stayed in the US. Army reserves for 25 years and receive a pension for my service plus Tricare benefits. I suspect that because of my service in the military and law enforcement, I will not qualify for getting a break with getting a relief from my S. S. Income. I guess because I served my country for over 30 yrs disqualify me for a tax break. In Addition senior citizens continue to have school taxes, which for some is causing them to sell their homes, because they can no longer to pay these outrageous taxes, another shot to hard working home owners, while renters do not pay school taxes.

The landlord or owner of the rental property pays the school taxes on the property, of course this are passed along to the renter as a business expense.
