Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Thank you Social Security Administration!! I applaud the SSA for this bold stance and hope all the viscious , hot-headed political responses will be ignored. All seniors should absolutely be “thrilled with the landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.” God bless the USA

I am thoroughly concerned by the social security administration’s entry into partisan politics with this post. Especially touting “benefits” to seniors on a day when so many people lost access to health insurance. Do better.

The above publication says “ The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits,” and “ The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries,”.
I believe the bill provides an enhanced tax deduction for qualifying seniors but not the elimination of taxes on benefits, this information seems misleading. I would appreciate it if this statement would provide precise and accurate information. Thank you

This is filled with lies. MAGA has taken over the marketing department. There will be no “immediate relief.” We still have to pay the taxes. We just get an additional deduction on our taxes, which doesn’t cover the amount of taxes that my husband and I pay. And we have to wait a year to get it, when we file our 2025 taxes. And it expires after 3 years. Tell the truth.

“this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

Bunch of garbage, it does NOTHING to fix the FUNDING problem the trustees said will have SS insolvent in just EIGHT years and an automatic 23% cut, so enjoy the “tax break” and know you’ll be losing 23% of your monthly checks starting in just 8 years as the do-nothing Congress isnt going to fix that as we continue sliding into fascism and dictatorship under this felon “president”

This information appears to be false. There is nothing in the bill that exempts 90 percent of recipients from paying any
    taxes on their benefits.

What a joke, most people wouldnt be paying a tax unless they are still working full time AND collecting SS too and hit the threshold, in my case it would amount to $150/mo if I’m still making my $45k AND collecting SS checks, if I’m working FT I’m on my employer’s health ins so Im not paying $180/mo medicaid premiums

There are people who are on SSDi who work in a limited capacity legally making various amounts, Monthly limits are $1620 a month. if you exceed this, they can take some or all of your benefits away. All income must be reported. If they earned $45k you are not getting much if any SSDi.
