Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

We, the American people, did not vote for this sham.

Why doesn’t the article say when this becomes effective?

I find this announcement disturbing and deeply out of touch with the lived reality of many American Citizens who rely on Medicaid, and SNAP to survive. While you celebrate tax relief for some seniors, many are still facing extreme hardship, hunger, and the inability to access critical medical care.

The tone of this post reads like political propaganda, full of applause and self-congratulation, while ignoring the millions of disabled, low-income Americans who are slipping through the cracks. I’ve spent months trying to recover from a life-threatening medical emergency, that led to the loss of my decades long career, and have been searching for work for months, and I cannot afford to get the care I need to live without Medicaid. What good is tax relief on Social Security income if people won’t survive long enough to collect it?

Instead of glorifying legislation with exaggerated language, maybe focus on delivering actual systemic support for the most vulnerable among your beneficiaries, not just those already financially secure enough to benefit from a tax break.

The blatant sycophantic acquiescence to the whims of the billionaire class and the petulant narcissist in office is revolting. The people are not as stupid as you think we are.

I always thought SSA was a non-partisan organization. Guess that is no longer the case. Sad

This is a great overstatement. Only the poorest recipients, most of whom are no doubt ALREADY exempt under the original modified AGI test, might otherwise have ceased to be taxed on their SS benefits under this bill. Thus, the claim that almost 90% of recipients would NO LONGER be taxed on their SS is misleading. I would have been much happier if our incompetent leaders had finally indexed it for inflation.

the statement is highly misleading and fails to mention that the new legislation shortens the lifespan of social security by reducing the funds paid into the trust fund thereby threatening the solvency of the program. It also breaks the President’s campaign promise to eliminate income taxes on social security

The President also lied about not touching Medicaid or Medicare and took away the healthcare of more than 10 million Americans just to give tax cuts to his wealthy donors and large corporations. The new law also explodes the national debt by more than 3 trillion dollars which will greatly damage the economy in the not too distant future.
