On August 20, 2020 I was granted SSDI. However, there as been an error made to my offset which leaves me receiving only $0 monthly. I’ve sent my workmen comp settlement documents to my local ssa office. They changed dollar amount to $22.00 which is for a cost of living increase. I was told that by SSA that my offset is an error. What else can I do to get my correct earnings for my SSDI benefits? Thanks

I had my son’s name fixed and sent a certified birth certificate to my local social security office for his social security card to be fixed. They sent back my certified birth certificate and stated in a letter that within 30days I should receive his social security card with the correct name. I haven’t received my son’s social security card with his correct name in 60 days. Do I still file a replacement ?

I need to have my childrens social security cards who are all minors replaced but I can’t find that information. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

  5. Jeff L.

I had to mail in a request for a copy of my child’s card per the website. It’s now been over 30 days. Who can I contact to find out the status? Unfortunately, the reason I need it will not accept the number and insist upon having the actual card.

Documen conataining my name and Social security number were stolen. How do I report this to Social Security?

    • Vonda

Hi Teresa, thanks for using our blog. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created a Self-Lock process. Locking an SSN helps stop individuals from using stolen SSNs to gain work authorization through E-Verify. Read more at https://www.e-verify.gov/mye-verify/self-lock.

To learn more about the steps individuals can take to prevent or resolve issues of identity theft, read our publication: “Identity Theft and Your Social Security Number”.

We recommend you only obtain a replacement Social Security card if you need one. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you will need to gather documents proving both your identity and citizenship status. To see if you’re eligible to apply for a replacement Social Security card online or to learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card, visit our Social Security Number and Card web page. Thanks!

Hi Sue, my child does need a replacement card. She turned 15 and needs to get an ID from the Department of Motor Vehicles but cannot without her social security card. I have submitted an application several times only to be told that she needs an ID to verify her identity and my drivers license is required to my identity. My daughter does not have an ID card because of COVID she has not been to school and so cannot get an ID because she was not present on the day that they took pictures. Please help me identify the documents that I can submit to verify her identify and my identity because everything I have submitted thus far has been rejected. Why can a exception not be made and a photocopy of my driver’s license be sufficient? It has been extremely frustrating as I have been trying to get this card for months. I have called and was told to send in my marriage license to prove my identity and that was rejected. I provided a copy of my daughters ID from her middle school and that was rejected because of the year. I have nothing else to prove my identity/my daughters identity. Please help.

not sure if I updated my name on my social security card after I got married but I cannot find my card to verify. I am going to be updating my drivers license to the real ID this year and need my ssn card but don’t want to request a replacement and then have to change my last name if it is incorrect I would rather do it all at once … time restriction wise because my divers license expires this year.

I am trying to replace my social security card, but I recently moved. I don’t want it sent to my old address, but the online form keeps saying my new address can’t be verified. How can I get my new card sent to my current address?

    • Asiaana P.

    • Ken F.

The instructions are confusing. Does change of address count as “new information” or can you get a replacement card online even if you change your address? I found this post helpful – https://socialsecurityportal.com/replacement-social-security-card/
