We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added Connecticut, Ohio, and Utah to the growing list of states where you can go online to replace your Social Security card. In many cases, you may not need a replacement card. Most of the time, simply knowing your Social Security number is enough.

If you do need to replace your lost or misplaced Social Security card, our online application makes getting a replacement card easier than ever. Online card replacement is available if you live in the District of Columbia or one of the 43 states that can verify state ID information for us. If you’re only requesting a replacement card and you’re making no changes, you may be able to use our free online service.

All you need to do is create a personal my Social Security account and meet certain requirements. Opening a personal my Social Security account is easy, convenient, and secure. We protect your information by using strict identity verification and security features. Once you have a personal account, simply follow the instructions to request a replacement Social Security card.

You can apply for a replacement card online, if you:

  • Are a U. S. citizen age 18 or older with a U.S. mailing address (this includes APO, FPO, and DPO addresses);
  • Are not requesting any changes to your card (including a name change); and
  • Have a valid driver’s license or state-issued identification card.

Now is a great time to go online because Social Security offices are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you need a replacement card, please visit our website to find out if you can take advantage of this convenient online replacement service.

    And for the rest of us, who have entered this country just before everything went to hell, who need a SSN post-relocation? We’re just screwed, because nothing is reopening and initial SSNs can’t be granted without an in-person appointment. Sucks to be us!

      I am in this situation. Entered on March 18. And SSA doesn’t even accept an application by mail together with supporting documents.

    Thank you, my social security card is fine. However there is a nagging issue that concerns me about access to a Social Security account. At present one needs to have a US mailing address to have an account and enjoy access to one’s information.. I think the restriction there is due to security concern, but I think the concern is outdated and someone needs to reevaluate the requirement. I do have a house in Florida, but I live in Israel most of the year, so I would not claim that I have a US address although I may be technically correct. In any case I feel the restriction is not fair to all the Americans who reside outside thr US

    I became a naturalized American Citizen last December 2019. Do I need to request for a replacement Social Security Card?

    • Vonda V.

      Congratulations, Oscar! You will need to update your Social Security record by showing us your Certificate of Naturalization and completing an application for a replacement card. All documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. If you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address.

      Visit our Social Security Number and Card web page for details on requesting a new, replacement or corrected Social Security card.

    Someone called me on the phone the other day asking me if I had my new card, referring to me with the suffix “3rd” , they asked me for my card ID number which Red Flagged. I hung up, and looked up their phone number on Google. It was a nonexistent phone number. It was a scam attempt!!!!!!!

    Due to the extra medical research and economic analysis work from the COVID-19 pandemic cured with a dab of $1 hydrocortisone creme, and continuing cruelty and hyperinflationary compensation for agency budget cuts and threatened cuts I must request an extension of time to complete the federal budget from Summer Solstice 2020 to perfect bona fide claims and exchange of private lands under 24USC§153. HUD, Interior and Agriculture Department are instructed how to declare their balance available under 31USC§1502. Reducing Poverty in America by Promoting Opportunity and Economic Mobility E.O. 13828 (2018) must be prohibited by Art. 20 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1976) to redress budget cuts under 18USC§246 pursuant to the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (The Gambia v. Myanmar) Summary 2020/1 23 January 2020 to the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. Worker propaganda is moot pursuant to Biestek v. Berryhill, Commissioner of Social Security (2019). With the federal deficit assumed to already be in excess of 3% of GDP, due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of Dec. 22, 2017 and high rates of compensation for budget cut threats, to pay for CARES Act giving without huge t-bond seizures from the stock exchange when it turns out Payroll Protection Program was not investment grade in mid-June, a 10% -50% devaluation of the US Dollar may be arranged pursuant under 19USC§4421, 22USC§5301 and the Revised estimates: effect of changes in rates of exchange and inflation Report of the Secretary-General A/74/585 of 11 December 2019.
