man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

I just got my medicare bill. I was told my first bill would be for 3 months. After that I could choose to pay monthly. How do I change to monthly billing. With being out of a job right now, the 433.80 bill is hard to pay. I can’t afford to lose my coverage by not paying.

Hi Mary Alice, thank you for your question. If you receive Social Security benefits, we will automatically deduct the Medicare Part B premium from your monthly payments. See Medicare’s Online Bill Payment web page for details and options when premiums are not automatically deducted. We hope this helps.

I am trying to pay Part D but Medicare Easy Pay only concerns Parts A and B.
How can I have automatic bank deductions for Part D?

    • Kathy

Thru your Part D carrier. Part D is not thru Medicare. It is handled thru an independent Insurance company. Contact the company on the member ID card.

I paid my quarterly premium for Medicare in October 2019, I was 65 and was not taking SS yet. Later that month I decided to sign up for SS benefits. I was told I would be reimbursed for the quarterly payment I made because SS was going to take out the monthly premium from my SS benefits. It’s now April 2nd and I’ve called but due to the covid19 I’m unable to connect with anyone on the phone. Please advise how I can contact someone regarding this.
    Thank you in advance.

Hi Linda, thank you for your question. If there is a Medicare premium overpayment, Social Security will automatically refund the premium overpayment. You will get a refund check separate from your regular monthly Social Security benefit. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are dedicating available staff to serve people in most critical need of our services. Please visit the Social Security and Coronavirus wage page before deciding whether to contact your local Field Office inquiry line or our National 800 Number. We hope this is helpful.

Hi. Difficult time to get through. I am delinquent on Medicare payment and need to make a payment in order to Reinstate benefits for July 1st. Needs to be done before end of March.
Got through to Medicare 800/633-4227 but they directed me to SSA # 800/772-1213 because there is a discrepancy in the $ amount quoted to me by SS at their office last month and what Medicare is quoting. Guidance please, on how & who to get through to – and thank you.

    • V.V.

As part of my retirement, I receive money each year to pay for out of pocket medical costs, including premiums. I begin Medicare next month so Part B payment will be taken out of my social security payment each month. In order for me to receive reimbursement for out of pocket expenses, I need a copy showing the payment. Will I receive a monthly statement showing what Social Security took out to pay for Part B?

I am going to receive my first benefit check March 18. apparently there was a misunderstanding about when
I would receive it. my medicare advantage payment ran out probably yesterday. If I need to pay for the next 3 weeks of coverage I will, or, since my payment will be taken out on the 18th, am I covered? and would this break in payment threaten my coverage? thank you
