man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

I retired in 2009 from working at the VA. I did not get Medicare at the time.
I want to know what it would cost me now to apply for Medicare. I have and will keep my Blue Cross of Florida as my secondary insurance.
How would I go about making the change. I do not want to lose my Florida Blue Cross

    • Luis A.

Hi Charles. For your security, we do not have access to your personal information in this forum. For specific questions about your account, please call our toll free number, 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), from Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. You may also contact your local Social Security office. You should also contact your local Medicare SHIP (State Health Insurance Program Coordinator) to discuss your health insurance options. We hope this helps.

How is it possible that I can not pay a Social Security overpayment back on line? The SS website has no information on this and it was impossible to figure out where to go on the site. I am trying to pay you back! Calling to make the payment has resulted in 12 calls where I can not speak to anyone to make the payment but instead, go thru the phone tree to get to elevator music, then recording saying all agents are busy and hangs up.

I spoke with a representative as I am being billed for B benefits and I have not signed up for them but received one check at age 62 from social security but immediately returned to work as an RN and do not want B. I pay for insurance for my husband and myself. The rep I spoke with, Priscilla, said I could print off the 1763 form to terminate B and stop being billed (I turn 65 on 01/01/2020) as I intend to keep working and paying for insurance. I am not finding a way to print the 1763 form off!!

    • Luis A.

Hi Peggy. We do not offer form CMS-1763 online. If you wish to terminate your enrollment, a signed request for termination and a personal interview is required. You will have to go to your local Social Security office, and we will help you submit a signed request for termination or Form CMS-1763. We hope this helps.

I am living outside USA and retired I just received a card from Medicare. I read the medicare will enroll you automatically in the program but I live in Peru now, and read that medicare does not work abroad but only in USA and Canada. I am afraid that Medicare will enroll me automatically and I must pay the premiums that I can not used.
for now I am not returning to USA.

    • Luis A.

Hi Adolfo. You can opt out of Medicare part B. Medicare generally does not cover health care while you are outside of the United States. If you wish to terminate your enrollment, a signed request for termination and a personal interview are required. You will need to contact your local Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) for assistance and to discuss your options. We hope this helps.

How do I find what the monthly premium will be for 2020 ?

    • Luis A.

Hi Thomas. The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is the federal agency that administers the Medicare health insurance coverage. CMS has not yet announced the 2020 monthly premium costs. To find out when the Medicare monthly premiums are announced, please save this link to your “favorites” on your internet browser. We hope this helps.
