man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

I can only pay monthly, but I keep getting 3-4 month bills. I do not want to lose my Medicare Is there anything you can do to assist me?
I just can not afford that much at one time. I am able to pay $200.00 today.

Hello, what is the Medicare banks routing # for online payment transfers from my bank. I must have this to set up the account with my bank.

Since I don’t plan to receive Social Security until age 70, I have been trying to set up Easy Pay in order to have the premiums deducted directly from my checking account. When I took the Authorization Agreement for Preauthorized Payments into my bank (Bank of America) for their signature, they refused to sign it due to liability issues. I have been a customer of theirs for years, if not decades. Any suggestions?

has my medicare monthly direct deposit for part B , been set up for direct deposit yet ?

    • V.V.

Hi Alejandro, thank you for your question. If you receive Social Security benefits, we will automatically deduct the Medicare Part B premium from your monthly payments. See Medicare’s Online Bill Payment web page for details when premiums are not automatically deducted.

  5. Don T.

Can SSA make it easier to set-up payments for Medicare premiums through ones personal bank account to allow for automatic payments?

Although I have an advanced degree, I have been having difficulty doing this, so I can just imagine how others, with less academic training, are doing with this system. This is a puzzle, and it shouldn’t be one. (NOTE: I just received a telephone call from the “help center” & the gentleman helped guide me to another website & transferred me to Medicare.gov. Thank God for this helpful person!).

Please consider this problem, which can be easily resolved with a link to the Medicare.gov website for the service sought. Thank you.

My husband hasn’t received his quarterly Medicare billing yet which is due the end of January 2019. He has an on line account so he can see his social security amounts he can receive when he retires, but he hasn’t yet.
How can I find it online? I like dropping off the payment at the SS office in my town.

  9. Cynthia F.

I have just signed up for Medicare A & B. I am not drawing SS as yet. Would like to find out if I can pay my Part B online. Please Advise.

    thank you!

I would like for your department to send m a copy of the letter that was sent to me in November/December, 2018 regarding “how much Social Security Will I Get” including the table of “How we figured your income related monthly adjustments amounts”. I misplaced the original one sent to me.

    Thank you.
