man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

    I am a federal retiree under the old system CSRS. I just received a quarterly bill for medicare part b prem. I called medicare to request a monthly bill instead of a quarterly one, my request was submitted and was told that I would receive an answer to that request by phone in approx. 7 days. OPM says I need to request my part b cost be taken out of my annuity payment and medicare tells me it will be done automatically. My quarterly bill says it is due this month…what I am I supposed to do?

    When I click the link “online bill pay” AKA https://www.medicare.gov/your-medicare-costs/paying-parts-a-and-b/online-bill-pay.html, the following appears: “Error: Page Not Found
    “We’re sorry, but there is no Medicare.gov page that matches your entry. You may have been directed here because:
    “The address you typed contains a typo;
    “The requested page may have expired or;

    How do I find out what my Medicare premium payments are for the whole year and when they are due so I can set them up to be paid automatically when they are due via my online banking bill payer? You make it so hard to find out what my payments are and when they are due every year.

      Hello Tom. Unfortunately, and because of security reasons we do not have access to personal records in this blog and cannot provide specific information on the amount of your Medicare premium payments. Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week.
      To learn more about ways to pay your Medicare premium bill visit http://www.Medicare.gov. Thanks!

    where do i find a copy of my most recent medicare bill?

    Can the SSA website document to which month the medicare premium deduction on a social security benefit check applies? If your social security benefit is in May and your check for that benefit arrives in June, is the deduction on that check for May, June or July?

    Please do not refer me to the 800 SSA help line as the agents were not helpful and frankly clueless providing unrelated social security benefit information.

    When transitioning from direct pay to the deduction method, inquiring minds want to know. This should be clearly documented given no further quarter premium states are delivered nor is there an online billing interface on the SSA or medicare websites.

    • Derek

      If you use the SSA chat interface, you can request a callback in 15 minutes. Many questions will be answered by that agent instead of waiting the one hour or more by calling SSA directly via their 800 number.

      In my case, the answer was the medicare premium deduction on the retirement benefit check applies to the month that the check is received. For example, if your benefit is for October and you get paid in November as per the usual next month payment process, the deduction on that check also applies to November. The email interface I’ve used before and no response was forthcoming.

      I asked that this be documented on the SSA.GOV website and the agent forwarded the request.

    • V.V.

      Hi Don. If you get Social Security, Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) or Civil Service benefits, your Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) premiums will get deducted from your benefit payment.

      If you don’t get Social Security payments, RRB, or Civil Service benefits, you’ll get a bill called a “Medicare Premium Bill” (CMS-500). Medicare offers four ways to pay your Medicare bill.

      If you have specific questions about your bill or the status of your Medicare coverage, call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778). Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
