man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

I have misplaced my Medicaid bill. How can I pay it online using a credit card?

    • R.F.

Hi Brenda, if you’re referring to Medicare premiums, please visit Medicare.gov for information on that topic. Thanks!

  2. Kathy S.

I tried to call about my Medicare Premium Bill, but I was told there was an hour wait. Can’t do that because I’m a fulltime caretaker for my husband. Is there any way to resolve this online?

  3. GEZA H.

what is a medicare premium bill and why is it so high

    • V.V.

Hi Geza: The standard Medicare Part B premium for medical insurance in 2018 is $134.00.

Some people who collect Social Security benefits and have their Part B premiums deducted from their payment will pay less. This is because their Part B premium increased more than the cost-of-living increase for 2018 Social Security benefits. Social Security will send a letter to all people who collect Social Security benefits (and those who pay higher premiums because of their income) that states each person’s exact Part B premium amount for 2018.

Since 2007, higher-income beneficiaries have paid a larger percentage of their Medicare Part B premium than most. Depending on their income, these higher-income beneficiaries will pay premiums that amount to 35, 50, 65, or 80 percent of the total cost of coverage. You can get details at Medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) (TTY 1-877-486-2048).

  5. Jeanne K.

I used to have Medicare Easy Pay. Part B premium was deducted from my bank account. A couple years ago my bank merged with another one. They were using both routing numbers until last month , when they dropped my original routing number. My payment was not taken. There is no where on the Medicare Premium bill to report any change with the banks. We are not to write anything on the notice. I tried to send a note along, but I still got another bill. Unfortunately, I just found the bill that had been buried in other paper work. Medicare site shows a form that would be sent by Medicare if I ask for it. The customer care at Medicare said to contact Social Security. This site does not say Easy Pay anywhere. It just says to contact my bank to set up auto payments.

    • V.V.

Hi Jeanne, thank you for your question. If you receive Social Security benefits, we will automatically deduct the Medicare Part B premium from your monthly payments. See Medicare’s Online Bill Payment web page for details when premiums are not automatically deducted.

  8. Sisenando C.

I applied already for my social security at the age of 66 and my first check coming in October 2018. My medicare bill is paid up to Aug 31, 2018, and I am getting a bill for $402.00 (quarterly) starting 1 Sep 2018 thru Nov 2018. Do I have to pay nothing (from my pocket) because it will be taken out as a deduction annually from my social security benefits. Or pay the whole amount, then get reimburse?
