No Need to Visit a Field Office: Replace Your SSA-1099 Benefit Statement Online

The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

    Please list the procedure to obtain a 1099 for a deceased person. The SSN is locked down preventing the on-line access. I have to go to the local office and am unsure of the required documents.

      Thank you for contacting us, Gregory. In certain cases, we may disclose SSA-1099 information from the record of a deceased person, only to the executor or a survivor of the deceased and only if we are able to establish the relationship of the survivor to the deceased based on SSA records.
      A request must be submitted at a Social Security office, the requestor will need to provide proper identification and supporting documents (proof of death or proof of executorship). We hope this information helps.

      If you are unable to create an account or encounter a problem with your my Social Security account, you may:
      •Call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”; or

    I am trying to retrieve a 1099 for my mother . She passed away last year on July 29th. Her name is Patricia C Thomas. Her SSN is *** – ** – ***. I need a copy of her 1099 to do her taxes for 2017. I received her 1099’s from my father’s pension that she was receiving. I never receive nothing from Social Security so that’s why I am inquiring.       In certain cases, we may disclose SSA-1099 information from the record of a deceased person, only to a survivor of the deceased and only if we are able to establish the relationship of the survivor to the deceased based on SSA records. You will need to go into the local Social Security office with proper identification and supporting documents to make a request for a replacement SSA-1099.
