man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

I am the Executor of a Trust. I need the decedent’s SS final tax statement in order to file his income taxes. How do I obtain that?

    • A.C.

Hi, James. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you did not receive the benefit statement, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. If you need more information, call our toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and ask a representative for assistance. We hope this helps.

I used all my correct information and I could not access my information Monday February 10, 2020 around 10:00 on line then it locked me out of online access. I called for a duplicate 1099 and it will take more than two weeks I never received the original.

  5. Jacquelynn D.

I need to replace my husband’s 1099 form. We never received the Form SSA-1099.

I opened a Social Security account and printed mine 1099.

My husband died October 1, 2019. His name is Bruce A. Martin.
His Soc. Sec. No. is (was)
    xxxxx-xxxx.
I don’t see any point in “opening an account” for someone who is dead.

    • A.C.

Hi, Jacquelynn. We are sorry to hear about your loss. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. I have been trying for weeks to get through on the phone to speak to a social security department representative. I have a question that I cannot find an answer to. How can I get a call back from social security rather than be on the phone for a 1/2 an hour and finally get disconnected anyway? Repeatedly.

    • A.C.

Hi, Susan. If you still need assistance, you can click “Get Help” in your personal my Social Security account to “Ask a Question”. Click “Talk to an Expert” for a call back. We hope this helps.

Every time I try to create an online account it will not allow me to. All my information is correct. I called and the agent was very nice and is sending my 1099 but this is all I lack to be able to file my taxes. It says that my information can’t be found or I have tried to many times. I am not that computer literate anyway and this is frustration.

    Thank you

    Vicki L Smith
