man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

You say: “creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.” Judging by comments on other sites, I am among many thousands of people who find that this is not true at all. In fact I have spent hours trying to do this, including a lot of time on hold, only to find that my correct answers to my credit questions are not accepted as correct by the system, and I am therefore locked out permanently because I tried 3 times (per advice of first phone helper to keep trying.) Now I am told that my only recourse is to physically go to a Social Security office (closest one is over an hour away) and wait for someone to have time to provide me with a code to circumvent this broken system. To add insult to injury, the phone survey afterwards asks if I requested a callback, but there is nowhere to request such a callback – even the Helpdesk person I got this morning told me it existed but was unable to find it anywhere on the website, even with the help of his supervisor, and it is certainly not in the menu when you call.

We HAVE to be able to do better than this!!

Carrell C. Crowder SSN *** – ** – *** of which Loyd K. Crowder, her spouse, was the payee. Carrell passed away on January 28, 2018. The payment that she would have received for Feb. 2018 was direct deposited, and then pulled back after notification of her death. I then received a letter stating I would have to return that benefit for Jan because there is no payments for the month in which the person being paid the benefit died. I then wrote a check in the amount of $884.00 on Feb. 21 2018 to cover the Jan. payment. This Jan, we received the SS 1099 showing that $884.00 in box 3 and none in box 4 on. I would like it corrected so I do not have to claim it on my taxes for 2018 because Carrell had no income from SS for 2018

This site is very difficult to use. After trying 10 unique usernames – some with randomn numbers mixed with randomn letters…..every rejection said the username was in use. There isn’t enough time in the day to mess with this….

And all I needed was a copy of my SSA-1099!!! A response in 4 to 6 weeks is not helpful to file an income tax return!

    Bah, huimbug.

This is one clumsy attempt to aid the people.
