New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

SO frustrated right now! Can’t get on the IRS Get my payment. Status not available. No idea if my stimulus is going to be DD or mailed since I did have to file 2019 taxes. IMy husband can’t get a response from SBA about a loan. No updates from bank either. Self employed people can’t even get the u employment filed due to back logs. Stores low on meat, some food & paper goods. And can’t get 1st stimulus after over a month and no determination on more coming. HOW some are surviving…I don’t know. It’s a disgrace for Americans and causing even more anxiety.

Please tell Nancy Pelosi and the other idiots thank you for screwing everything up, all the frigin time. Meanwhile, people like her are sitting at home with their millions in their nice homes denying people like Chapter 61 military retirees their retirement and not giving money for their kids for the economic payment. The people can force change if they want to. Just saying.

Finally got my payment for my wife and I. I ran through that three ring circus non-filers task. It was accepted a few hours after I completed it. I printed it all out. My two kids are listed below with their social on the 1040 that generates for printing. Everything is was in order as you guys told me to do. So great being a medically retired veteran. I knew this was going to happen. After doing said task on 11APR2020, my wife’s and my info for payment FINALLY showed up on Sunday morning. Saying the payment will be made on the 29th. When I put in my two Boy’s info I got that same dumb error message. I figured it must be just riding on my social or something. Well, not really, in the back of my mind I knew it their payments would be screwed up. As expected, this morning I got the money for my Wife and myself. Nothing for the kids and no damn explanation why. No wonder we always get hacked by other countries because our IT guys are morons.

Same exact thing happened to me. I used the non-filer portal on April 11 and entered my SS#, my wife’s SS# and my 16 year old daughters SS#. I received this week the payment for $2400.00 for my wife and I and nothing for my daughter. I did everything right on the non-filers portal and got the approved email and everything. No payment for my daughter. What’s up with this?

Filled out the non-filers form to claim and receive my dependent child’s $500 . She receives a dependent benefit under my SS and I received a1099 for both of us , yet my direct deposit of $1200 was made , but not her $500. I’ve been reading this is happening to a lot of people not just dependents under SS recipients . Wondering how the IRS is going to handle this or what I can do to get her money .

April 29 and still no stimulus check my DirectExpress card shows my next monthly benefit is pending but not my stimulus check

  7. Stephanie

Do we have to pay back the stimulus money? Does it effect our benefits in any way?

    • V.V.

Hi Stephanie, thank you for your question. The economic impact payments will not affect Social Security benefits. In addition, we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months. Check out the Social Security Coronavirus page for additional details.

  8. Crystal

    • Spudd w.

      Me either

    • Brandie

I keep checking but i dont have anything either. Hopefully by the actual 1st of the month we will get something.

    • David M.

I have not received a pending deposit for stimulus payment. I do know it will be a pending first and not go straight on the card. I know 2 people who got a pending yesterday and there’s posted last night at midnight. I think if we don’t have a pending sometimes today we should be worried because that round of deposits are over. With that said who do we contact? If we call direct express they will not tell you anything and all I want to know is if in fact that round of deposits are over or are they still working on them? If there done then I need to contact IRS and if they are still working on it then I need to wait. I feel like just waiting is going to mess alot of people up. I believe anytime there going to say you should have done this or that and now it’s to late.
