New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

Is anyone else not showing the $500 for dependents on their pending payment? I filled the non filers form on April 10th to claim my son and it only shows the $1200 not extra $500. Just trying to figure out if this is happening to other people also.

    • Paul

I am having the same problem. I filed on the 11th on the non filers and got the confirmation for my daughter who is 16. I only go the 2400 instead of the 2900 with the 500. I think it should be on the way if we both are having the same problem. Let’s give it couple of days to see if it comes as a separate payment.

You are not alone I just posted the same question a couple of minutes ago. I completed the non-filers tool to receive the $500 stimulus for my son by the deadline and my payment is pending on my Direct Express card but nothing for him. Although my situation may be a little different because I am the representative payee for him as he receives a monthly SSI check.

I’m still waiting for those Obama “extra” SSA checks when he came into office. My Congressional Rep. (thankfully out of Congress at this point) passed the buck back to SSA for years & Obama wouldn’t answer my letters of protest. I don’t expect anything from the present administration.

I still haven’t received a stimulus check yet, I have direct deposit from my Social Security disability every month and I’m a non-filer and my son is over 21 years old and lives with his mother so according to everything I’ve read I’m not supposed to fill out any information, if my kids were 17 and under and we’re living with me I guess I would but since they’re not I’m following directions and I’m just wondering when I will get my check?

    • Medvet

You will get it by wed.29th

  4. Robin

When will the covid money be direct deposited for SSDI recipients

  5. Paul

I received my stimulus payment for me and my wife and had filed the non-filers for my 16 year old daughter. We did not receive the $500 for my daughter with the payment. We only go the $2,400.00. How is the $500 going to be paid? By check or maybe it is not done processing. Let me know if you have any information on this.

May I ask if you are direct deposit? You’re the first person on this whole forum , besides one other person who I didn’t believe , who said they got the check

      • Paul

        Direct Deposit,

        • Joanne G.

When will i get my stimulus check on my direct deposit card

      • Paul

I use Bluebird by AMEX for my direct deposits. I get my money three days before all the others because they don’t hold the money. Even for Social Security. For example, If my monthly payment is scheduled for the first Wed. in the month, I get my money three days before that. So with that said, The GetMyPayment app said I was supposed to get my Stimulus on the 29th which is this Wed. At 1:00am this morning I received $2400 for my wife and I. I had filed for the additional $500 for my 16 year old daughter prior to the 22 of April on the non filers page and was supposed to get $2900. So my question is where is the additional $500 for my daughter? It wasn’t there and I did everything the irs requested to get the extra child benefit.

        • Sarah

I’m having the same problem. It doesn’t show the $500 for my son just the $1200…so frustrating

          • Paul

I know, I did everything right and no $500 yet. I don’t know who to contact about it, I have my email confirmation that I was approved for the non-filer filing. How about you?

  6. Mark R.

Does anyone who has direct express have a pending deposit?

    • John T.

      Nope

    • Penny B.

Mark, I do! I have direct deposit and just checked…a pending deposit of 1200! Finally!

      • Mark R.

Is it direct express for direct deposit?

        • Penny B.

          Mark
          Yes it is direct express.

        • Penny B.

Yes, I have direct express as well.

      • Karen

You have direct express and it shows a pending deposit? I checked mine this morning because IRS website said my check would be deposited Wednesday, but Direct Express isn’t showing that. I will just wait and see. Nothing else we can do.

    • Jeje

Yes I do have a pending payment in my direct express card for 1,200 yes everyone on direct express yes you will get your stimulus check on your direct express card April 29,2020

      • Karen

      • Mark R.

Yes, your right!! This is great news. I have a pending deposit for the 29th

  7. LOISMARIE B.

  8. Seth J.

Oh and since i was put on hold for a year and claimed as dependent no stimulus check???? I applied since 2008 just win last year ssi and ssdi go figure. Ive been shafted almost every way possible.

  9. Stephen

We are definitely the less desirable.

  10. Jason R.

I love how all the tax payers got their money yet us “less desirable, low-life bottom feeder, burdens of society” are still waiting and no one has any idea WHEN the fuck we’re supposed to get it! I mean, not that it matters to me seeing how the government is allowing debt collectors and child support agencies to take your money if you owe (in my case I owe child support), which is just sooo fucked up!

    • John T.

I total get understand but what i cant figure out is todays monday an for 2 years like clock work my deposit for my regular ssi has always been posted 5 dayz before maybe itll show up today but if it doesnt all i can say its fixin to get wild
