I need the SSA-1099 for my father, who passed away in April of 2020. I am the executor of his will and need to complete his taxes in order to close the estate. How can I find out how to do this, or how to get hold of the SSA-1099 that should have been mailed?

    • V.V.

Hi Randy, thank you for using our blog. The SSA-1099 is mailed in January to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you do not have access to the mail at that address, the executor will need to call the local field office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

My wife 1099 for ssdi is incorrect for 2020. We received her first 1099 in the later part of 2019. It included a December payment for teh back benefit and the fee for teh attorney. We submitted that with our 2019 taxes. However, we received the 1099 for 2020 and its has the amount from 2019 listed on this years form as well. It says it was paid this year – that is incorrect. We have already paid taxes on this amount. How do we get a corrected form??

I am needing my parent’s Social Security 1099 for 2020. I think it was just regular retirement benefits. I need to file their final tax return, as they both passed away in 2020. I had their mail forwarded to me (in another state) and have gotten most everything else. I don’t think they had a login to access it online. I am the PR for my mother’s estate, but since my father died a few months before her there is no probate filed on him. Though I am the executor of his will. Please advise, thanks.

Hi. I’m a US citizen living abroad. I received a lump sum payment for Social Security for all of 2020 sent out on 12/20/20. Will I receive a SSA-1099 for 2020 or will this payment be included in my 2021 SSA-1099? I haven’t yet received an SSA-1099 and so far no SSA-1099 replacement for 2020 is available on my my Social Security account. Thank you for your help…

I called your office today, the lady advised me I need to call RR Retirement because I receive my SSA-1099 through them! Of course as you would guess it is difficult to get my questioned answered! I do have my RRB-1099 and we have the RRB-1099-R as well but they do not have MY Social Security information as part of them!

How do I attain it, I have always had a form until now!
