The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to people who are 65 and older, and to adults and children with disabilities who have low income and few resources. SSI is a critical program for veterans, people struggling with homelessness, mental illness, and other challenges.
We’ve made it easier for adults to apply for SSI. We’ve expanded our online disability application to include a streamlined version of the initial SSI application.
This is the first phase of a multi-year effort to simplify the application process and improve access for people who may be eligible for disability. For more information, visit our blog.

Is disability going to receive the 5000 check? Even if we don’t file taxes! I think it would be unfair if we didn’t receive the check as well. Please make sure we receive it as well

They didn’t want to give us the stimulus check during the pandemic but changed their mind. The Republicans need to pay us or lose million of votes. The Republicans can’t afford to alienate those on Social Security.
Federal employees paychecks are paid by federal taxpayers money just like ours. If the federal employees get the dividend check, then we should too.
$2.7 trillion dollars of the Social Security Trust Fund is borrowed and re-invested this year and if that money is saved, then we should get a cut.
The Republicans borrowed money from the Social Security Trust Fund, but want to give the federal bureaucrat employees and non-citizen employees our money and not pay us back when the money is saved. Pay back the people you borrowed from.
80% of the money goes back to private investors, 20% goes to federal bureaucrat employees and non-bureaucrats employees. The federal government didn’t even borrow money from the federal bureaucrat employees and non-bureaucrat employees, but they get 20% and we get nothing. If they are paying down the debt, then they need to pay us.

The article is a little misleading. Disabled Veterans who get a needs based pension are not eligible for SSI unless they live in a state with a supplemental payment.

No you should find another plan because part of the new DOGE’s mission is to eliminate ‘entitlement’ programs like disability. We are out of luck

When the U.S. economy goes into a recession, DOGE will have to hand out those dividend checks to stimulate growth in the economy.
It might be one of those STHU moment from the President. We might be getting information the U.S. economy is going to tank soon and it is going to take a lot of stimulus money to jump start the economy.
Remember the initial $600 stimulus check he floated around when the economy crashed. Now he is floating a $5000 dividend check which means it is going to be even worse than before.

If you have low income and limited resources, you may be eligible to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in addition to monthly Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits. SSI is a needs-based program that provides payments to people with limited income and resources who are age 65 or older, blind, or have a qualifying disability. To be eligible for SSI and SSDI – commonly referred to as “concurrent” benefits – your SSDI must be less than $987 in 2025 (the SSI monthly Federal payment amount plus $20). It’s programs like this that drain Social Security for those who paid into it. There are other government programs that could provide support for disabled and low income. Hopefully, DOGE will end the careless spending of SSA.

Alot of those people getting SSI And SSDI have paid taxes . i’d rather it go to low income legal Americans and Veterans instead of all the illegals that Biden was giving them $5000 PLUS each month. we need to take care of our own.

What do you consider to be low income to get SSI. And I don’t think it’s right that the people that work like myself paying in my FICA taxes since I was 16 years old and now permanently disabled with several chronic conditions and because of the increase in COLA $1482 a month especially with the inflation in the economy being so poorly and groceries that are increasing in price such as a dozen of eggs $6 in bread $4 a loaf I mean how do you expect people to live and then pay rent for a one bedroom over $1,000 a month and they’re saying I make too much money to apply for assistance and taking me off of my QMB. TENNCARE MEDICAID CONSTANTLY TERMINATES MY DUAL SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM AND MAKES ME WANT TO PAY 20%. I CAN’T AFFORD IT BEING HOMELESS FOR 3 YEARS PAYING A STORAGE UNIT FOR 3 YEARS BECAUSE OF WHAT THE STATE OF TENNESSEE HAS DONE AND DIDN’T WANT TO RENEW MY LEASE FOR NO REASON WHY ARE THE PEOPLE HAVE TO SACRIFICE AND SUFFER ABUSE, NEGLECT AND THIS IS INHUMANE TREATMENT. And then to top it off you get the flex card over the counter and they’re denying me food. When is somebody going to do something about this and investigate the states that are mis handling the funds from the federal government and abusing the disabled seniors and children from getting benefits that were entitled to I like someone to answer that question and then why can’t I get SSI to compensate because of the state causing me to lose my right vision almost lost my eye due to a parasite attacking my cornea all because of contaminated tap water now why should I have to suffer because of somebody’s negligence.

Because you are better off than those on SSI. SSI is a means tested program and not compensation. SSI is paid out of the general tax revenues and do not deplete the SS trust funds.

Ma’am is the same way as I say, I am homeless at the age of 41. I have a service dog department of social service. Nobody wants to help me here. I worked and I paid my dad. I also did what I had to do nothing I think it’s not fair neither just because of the age I get it. There are heroes and without them we won’t be here still not fair.
