Correcting the Record about Social Security Office Closings

Recent reports in the media that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is permanently closing local field offices are false. Since January 1, 2025, the agency has not permanently closed or announced the permanent closure of any local field office. From time to time, SSA must temporarily close a local field office for reasons such as weather, damage, or facilities issues, and it reopens when the issues are resolved. The agency has announced the permanent closure of one hearing office, in White Plains, NY.
SSA works closely with local congressional delegations before closing any office permanently. The agency also reassigns employees from an affected office to other locations to help communities access in-person services.
“SSA is committed to providing service where people need help and our local field offices are no exception,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “We have not permanently closed any local field offices this year.”
SSA identified for the General Services Administration underutilized office space to ensure the government is spending taxpayer money as prudently as possible. The agency provided GSA a list of sites for termination. Most of these are small hearing rooms with no assigned employees. Since most hearings are held virtually, SSA no longer needs these underutilized rooms.

Why does this blog blame the media when the specific office closings were listed directly on the DOGE website? It’s not the media here, it’s the de facto decision-making department. Truth matters!

Can SSA contact INS to verify that an applicant is a naturalized US citizen or does that applicant need to contact a US representative or Senator to sign a privacy waiver to enable SSA to be able to contact INS to verify that applicant’s lawful immigration status.

The cuts to SSA staffing make it increasingly difficult for people to receive the information and help that they need. In addition, the new requirement to report in person seems intended to prevent people from accessing their rightful benefits rather than remedying fraud, which is at a very low level. Cuts to SSA have created government inefficiency rather than alleviating it. The looming specter of missed social security checks causes great anxiety for many seniors who rely on these payments for housing and food.

Please come up with a system that will not keep callers waiting on the line for two hours or more or put in a que to have a call back in two hours or more. There has to be a better way for the public to access a person to talk to about SSA matters. Not everyone can wait nor has a computer or internet in rural areas.

I am a direct service provider, specifically working with the community of people with disabilities. I personally assists people call the local SSA office to set appointments to apply for SSA benefits. The website is helpful but it doesn’t work for every person I help or if they have specific questions about their situation. Unfortunately, our local office has been very difficult to reach since all of these changes began to happen. The call goes through but the automated system hangs up the call stating all the representatives are busy rather than allow for people to have choice in waiting for someone to pick up. I just want to make you aware of this situation as it is affecting direct beneficiaries. The local office I am having a hard time reaching is the one in Ogden, Utah. Thank you.

Please hire more people to answer the phones. Nobody wants to (or can) wait 3 hours on hold and many of us still do not own computers or can afford internet. Need more experienced people and more phones all across the USA.

Good decent patriots forced the US Federal Govt Corporation into Involuntary Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and was DISSOLVED on Oct 1, 2024. The Court ordered Trump to liquidate it’s assets of 1.5 million fed employees and eliminate all but essential agencies. All recovered waste/stolen that DOGE finds is to be returned to the people. Trump was told to inform the people of this fact, come clean. He won’t do that though so what the people don’t know is better for these criminals. He decided we only get 5,000$ each and keep lying the people owe their debt. That’s 5,000 out of 50 trillion$. SSA was involved in giving debt cards with 1,000’s$ to all illegals crossing the border through NGO’s of the USAID. Trump is the last hope for the Pirates to finish off this country for good, so they walk away with all our money and not be held accountable. We do not need this govt Corp, we have the power to DISSOLVE ALL govt traitors and their private corps. we have all the militias(gun owners) and judicial patriots to help us.
