Recent reports in the media that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is permanently closing local field offices are false. Since January 1, 2025, the agency has not permanently closed or announced the permanent closure of any local field office. From time to time, SSA must temporarily close a local field office for reasons such as weather, damage, or facilities issues, and it reopens when the issues are resolved. The agency has announced the permanent closure of one hearing office, in White Plains, NY.

SSA works closely with local congressional delegations before closing any office permanently. The agency also reassigns employees from an affected office to other locations to help communities access in-person services.

“SSA is committed to providing service where people need help and our local field offices are no exception,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “We have not permanently closed any local field offices this year.”

SSA identified for the General Services Administration underutilized office space to ensure the government is spending taxpayer money as prudently as possible. The agency provided GSA a list of sites for termination. Most of these are small hearing rooms with no assigned employees. Since most hearings are held virtually, SSA no longer needs these underutilized rooms.

You are a glutton for lies. No govt corporation is interested in being honest to the people since they only know how to lie and those who don’t think for themselves are the ones who will always believe the lies. To be you has to really suck.

“Since January 1, 2025, the agency has not permanently closed or announced the permanent closure of any local field office”. Nice try, but some of us can “read between the lines” and are not swayed by your empty rhetroic. Today is March 27th and the only info I care about is what office and services you are terminiating moving forward to fund #47 tax cuts for the wealthy, Depending on which news report you read, the number can be as high as 46 as of this writing. As a senior, I fully funded my SS payout and you the government have borrowed against and abused my retirement. You are obligated to provide timely and accurate benefits and I fully expect you to do so without one iota of reduction to services or assistance.

Now, this is supposed to make me feel better because only 6 regional offices are being shuttered, and only 12% of SSA workers–who already work at capacity, every day–are being laid off? Golly, silly old gullible me! Get a life, you DOGE stooge! And: DO THE RIGHT THING.

This administration hasn’t demonstrated much transparency in too many areas. I do not find much comfort in these words. Why should I put faith in this?

I thought you were requiring employees and the public to work in person at the offices, but you talk about virtual hearings and moving personnel to other sites. You’re talking out of both sides of your mouth. Who can trust anything you say?

Because they are closing! Guessing SSA Administration is being “pressured” by the current White House to spread propaganda on this site that Social Security is rife with waste, fraud and corruption. They know that half of the US population is gullliable enough to fall for that line of BS, making it easier to reduce benefits and services so Elon Musk can enjoy continuing reduced taxes while your taxes increase. Open your wallets 47 supporters it is payback time!

I’m very grateful for the government to check different agencies that uses hard working tax payers money to be used appropriately and efficient. We need our social security system to continue.

What was not said (suspiciously) is if there will be a reduction of staff to help citizens without waiting.

That’s the mainstream media; the “Never Trumper’s”, perpetuating these false reports. They need to be reeled in and held accountable.
