Commissioner of Social Security Shares Update about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments for Beneficiaries

“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

    Hey Guy’s, I had 2 major back surgeries and am in constant pain( that’s my problem) BUT I had to stop working at 40 years old and drs said if I tried to lift or go back to workplan on a wheelchair. Scar tissue joined with nerve tissue when it healed and dr said 99% I would be paralyzed if they tried to repair it so . I am on minimal money that ssi and ssa did give me . Enough about my woes. We have to hang tuff and get thru this,,,but I hate it. Living with my cousin is my saving grace or else it would be sidewalk. Try to keep in mind that YOU ARE gonna make it. I am 62 and daughter was hit by a car while walking across the street. now this!!!! It’s horrible but we can’t give up,we have others that depend on us.So what do we do???? I refurbish computers to make a little money but I am no expert and just get by. THES so called politicians ! I bet they aren’t eating mac and cheese for dinner 3 times a week. I am a firm believer in God, take that however you want. But I really feel for everyone with a lot more on their back than me. Do the best you can and we will look back at this down the line. I do not understand how these 250.>500 a year live in there skin. . I am rambling now but BE STRONG , we are gonna be ok. Just hunker down and be a good example for all.     I am a SS recipient and made less than 75,000 last year and I did not get a stimulus check or money deposited to my account. Why? Where can I get update on this money I am missing?

    I received ssa disability and received my ssa-1099 form in January 2020. But i have yet to receive my stimulus check. I would like to know is there a department that I can communicate with in regards to my issue?

      I too have received SSDI for 14yrs, but I haven’t received my stimulus money yet either. Social Security and the IRS are stating that people who receive SSA, SSDI should or have already received their money by direct deposit. I fear that I won’t receive my money and that I will fall between the cracks. My heart goes out to everyone who hasn’t received their money and are still waiting.
