Social Security Administration LogoFor 88 years, Social Security has provided income protection to millions of retirees, people with disabilities, dependents, and families that lose a wage earner.

This year, we will administer more than $1.3 trillion in benefits and payments to more than 70 million beneficiaries and cover 181 million workers and their families.

In addition to paying benefits, we issue millions of Social Security numbers each year, maintain the  wage records of workers, and more. The scope of what we do is enormous, and we are proud to serve the American people every day.

To better serve you, we have prioritized our online customer experience. In December 2022, we launched an enhanced SSA.gov to make it easier for you to find what you need. More than 180 million people visit our website every year. Whether providing service in person or online, our goal is help you understand what you may qualify for and transition you to an application process.

We have also worked to make sure our programs, particularly Supplemental Security Income (SSI), remain accessible to the people who need them most. In March 2022, we launched an online tool that allows you or your representative to request an appointment to file for SSI and preserves the filing date. An employee will then schedule a full interview.

Another way that you can do business with us online is by signing up for a personal my Social Security account. With your free and secure account, you can apply for benefits and Medicare, check your application status, get proof of benefits, and request a replacement Social Security card. If you don’t receive benefits, you can use your account to get personalized retirement benefit estimates, your Social Security Statement, and instant proof you don’t receive benefits.

We are committed to helping maintain the well-being and protection of the people we serve. We strive to ensure that every person who is eligible for or receives benefits gets them timely and accurately. That is how we help you secure today and tomorrow.

Please share this information with your friends and loved ones who may need it – and post it on social media.

I can understand that 62 only allows to make 21,200 dollar ! It’s not enough money for one person .when everything is so high prices now ! It could be better for 62 raise it up to 51,000 year .it’s so sad because I can’t afford a new car .

I totally hear what you’re saying Tom, I think I can speak for a lot of people who receive SSI, I myself have so much trouble trying to survive on what little money I receive, I think I could manage it a little better if I received it more frequently. The Department of Public Welfare receive their checks every 2 weeks. I wish the SSA would consider distributing Disability checks that way. Once a month just doesn’t work well, I simply don’t have enough to last all month after paying rent, bills, food, etc., then waiting 25 days until the next check is far too long a wait.

I’m a Senegalese citizen, and I have some trouble walking because of a severe hip disorder following my total hip prosthesis’s damage.
But no one notice my acute pain,i’m living in tight corner abandoned and neglected because I was fired due to my severe hip disorder.
I’m calling for your charitable efforts to enable my treatment at the New York Medical Center Langone,I came into contact with the staff, but I couldn’t afford the fee for my admission to the Hospital.
      Heartfelt Thanks

Thank you for this benefit. For the workers who answered my questions, for the behind-the-scenes staff who keep every aspect of Social Security going, for those of you who implement changes: my sincerest gratitude. Your efforts are necessary and appreciated.

    Hello,

I wish you had included mention of the authors of the social security act. There used to have a picture and information about Dr.isadore S. Falk on the social security web site. Very sadly, that was taken down several years ago.

Those who fought for social security, Medicaid and Medicare were often targets of political attacks, and called socialists and communists. They strived for a better life for Americans by providing some level of security for those in poor health and as we reach old age.

I hope that you will reconsider posting information about those who worked tirelessly for social security in the US. Millions of us have benefited.

    Regards,
    Jennifer Falk Milligan

Social Security is 2 1/2 months older than me, so we’ll celebrate our 88th Birthday the same year.

Congrats SSA – and appreciation to all the hard working SSA people … and especially to FDR who started this wonderful support system for us old folk. And for all the other categories of US citizens you support! -Thanks a million!
