Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul
Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: March 17, 2021
Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.
Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.
By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.
I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.
Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment
People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.
Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

Did you read the criteria which determines who gets something & who doesn’t? Unless you have a complex unusual situation that should answer your question/

I BELIEVE ONE OF THE REASON’S FOR THE GOVERNMENT’S ACTIONS IS QUITE SIMPLE. THERE ARE LESS PEOPLE ON SSDI, SSI, ETC…WHICH MEANS THE MONEY THAT JUST GOT SENT OUT TWO WEEKS AGO IS FINDING SOME TO MOST OF IT’S WAY BACK INTO THE GOVERNMENT FUND IT CAME FROM. IF $100 MILLION RETURNS, AND THEY ARE PAYING $200 MILLION, THEN THEY ONLY NEED TO TAKE OUT $100 MILLION OF WHAT IS IN THE FUND INSTEAD OF THE INITIAL $200 MILLION.
REMEMBER THIS LAST TIME PEOPLE WERE SEEING THEIR DEPOSITS IN THEIR ACCOUNT STARTING AROUND WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND? CHANCES ARE IT MAY REPEAT ITSELF AGAIN BECAUSE THEY SAID ABOUT 10 DAYS AFTER THE FIRST WAVE BEING SENT OUT THE SECOND WAVE SHOULD BE READY.
YES, IT IS FRUSTRATING ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT THESE ARE NOT NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, BY
FAR. THROUGH FOG, HEARING IS BETTER THAN SEEING.

Shut the hell up. Who are you to say who should not be getting a check. You don’t know what other people are going through and need. You don’t know their situation and struggles.trying to count every penny and make it stretch in this high cost of living world. Worry about your own dam situation. And leave others alone. Cause you don’t pay none of our bills and it’s not coming out of your pocket. So go kick rocks you clueless ignorant Fool. ??

The information is very confusing and contradicting. My question, I receive SSI and someone filed me as a dependent in 2018 now for 2019 they are not filing me but that person has not filed his 2019 taxes. So now I dont know if because of the 2018 taxes if it will make me ineligible to receive the stimulus money?

ineligible

Fill out the form. They will go off 2019 before looking to 2018.

Hi Patricia, I am in the very same situation as you are. However I have a friend who is in the same situation, who informed me that she used her Mother on her 2018 tax return, and when they went to get her 2019 taxes done (to use their Mother again) the professional tax person told her to wait before she file for 2019 – because it will effect her Mom from receiving the stimulus check. Yep!! So it was explained to me that being a 2018 dependent is not the issue because there’s a receipt of monies already issued for that tax return year. Now whats important is – NOT TO BE ON NOBODY’S 2019 TAX RETURNS AS A DEPENDANT!!! Okay. But lets pray that we will be able to receive the Stimulus money. Because speaking for MYSELF, I need all the help I can get. God Bless.

CORRECTION/ So it was explained to me that being a 2018 dependant is not the issue because THE REFUND for the 2018 tax year was already issued for that tax year…

I received SSI 4 2018 and 2019 January February of 2020 they stopped my payment March 1st I’m fighting it now well I still get a stimulus check
Elizabeth J.
Tried to get answers for weeks – no response. Had to change account information since dialed my last return in 2018. Why? because people sitting around with nothing to do sent a bogus check through my account. Because I filed this year and with these new and improved tax laws won’t be getting a dime back I don’t know if I should try to add my banking information or not? Since I do get SSI Retirement, you would think the two government agencies would match up but NO ONE can tell me anything! I guess I will just wait.

I’m out of a job I have 2 kids and husband I’ve been only income I have a emrald card nothing still dont know how were going to make it and the irs partial want work for me so now what do I do
Becca
You need to file your bank account details with the irs. Emerald cards aren’t bank account number and will not receive payment.
