Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

I am very confused. First they stated that even if you didn’t normally file a tax return you must do so in order to receive the stimulus check. Then they said as long as you have your social security check deposited in bank, THERE WAS NO NEED AS THEY WOULD AUTOMATICALLY FORWARD YOUR CHECK.
NOW IT SEEMSTHAT WE SHOULD FILE A RETURN. WHICH IS IT???????

    • James I.

I am 81 and receive Social Security benefits which are my only income. My income level does not meet the amount to have to file. I am single divorced) for 4 years, and have no dependent children. Will I automaticlly receive my EIP amount? I have have my SSA 2019 1099 Statement!!

      • Prc

        Yes

    • Anna

I think the way I am reading it if you have direct deposit and didn’t file taxes the IRS all ready has your information from your 1099 form from Social security I believe this is only if you are claiming a child to get the additional 500 per child then you would have to file the simple tax form this is what H&R Block told me

      • Dorothy

Myy husband and I were divorced in September, 2019. We filed jointly in 208 but not 2019.. I am 77 years old and have had my Soc. Sec.. Bank drafted for 2 years as we were separated. • Mike

Joseph, its back to you needing to file a return. You need to do so quickly.

    • Shelterer

You should get your stimulus payment by direct deposit if you received a form SS-1099 and have direct deposit. You don’t need to file a tax return to get it.

      • Rhonda B.

I receive SSA benefits and use direct deposit at my credit union. I am at proverty level so l haven’t had to file taxes. When can I expect the direct deposit of the stimulus money.

My daughter does not have a permanent address, only her work address. She does not file income taxes as she has little or very low income. How does she revive a supplement check? Does she use her work address? She doesn’t have one but could she use a post office box number? Please help. She could really use the money. She is 58 years old and lives in Minnesota.

    • Bryon

As long as she has a ss# and a po box, that is all she needs. Just in put that info in the “non filers” tab. When they start to issue the paper checks by mail, she should receive one.

    • shawn s.

If you go to irs.gov there is a section where they tell you how to give them your address

    • Deanna M.

Prepaid debit card if she already don’t have one and gave them the routing and account number and they will deposit our money on that card or in her bank account or she can request a check and mail once she’s finished putting in her information on the irs.gov website under none fillers

  9. Bridget W.

So I haven’t paid a single tax, for the 8th consecutive year so mine will be on my Direct Express Mastercard?

    • Marie

I have dependent children who already receive benefits due to my ssd. Will they automatically get a check? I tried to file a simple stimulus for the kids but I don’t have an IP pin. So the system keeps rejecting my return. Ive tried contacting the IRS repeatedly to obtain an IP pin and have had no such luck.. Help…!

      • retiree

Marie your children must be under 17 yrs old to get the check-500.00.As long as they get benifits you wont have to do anything else.

      • Deanna M.

Go to none fillers and put in there information they just post if your receiving social security or any kind of benefits through government to claim the 500$ you have to go to the none fillers website and enter there information it’s going to take you to a page that says efile so don’t panic it’s just look like your being direct to another website

      • Terri

Children under 16 who get SSI/SSDI will NOT get a $1200 check Wow. Greedy
