    Good Morning,
I never signed up for Medicare Part B because I don’t need it, I already have Tricare Prime, which will turn into Tricare for life in the next ten years. I have been on hold now for about 45 minutes.
How do I disenroll from the hospitalization, which is Part B?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Wray. Thanks for your question. If you have coverage under a program from the Department of Defense, your health benefits may change or end when you become eligible for Medicare. You should contact the Department of Defense or a military health benefits advisor for information before you decide whether to enroll in Medicare medical insurance. We hope this helps.

When will COLA for 2023 be announced?
Is SSA aware of the fact that basing any COLA increase on the previous 12 months, means that each year, recipients have lived the previous 12 months without that adjustment, i.e. recipients actually are living each year in a deficit position?
Given the exorbitant increases in food costs, which are well above the current inflation rate, those on fixed incomes (SSA), without any other income, are finding it impossible to afford to eat; certainly not eat healthy.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Katherine. Thanks for visiting our blog. We will not know if there will be a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2023, and if so the amount of the COLA, until the Department of Labor releases information on inflation for the past year. For the latest news and updates on Social Security, please check out our page at http://www.ssa.gov. Additionally, you may be eligible to receive social services from the state in which you live. These services include free meals, housekeeping help, transportation, or help with other problems. To get information about services in your area and find out if you qualify, you will need to contact your state or local social services or welfare office. We hope this helps.

I am reaching retirement age but was notified I was two credits short of receiving benefits. How can I pay into SS to earn the two credits, if working for myself and not set up as self employed?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Sally. Thanks for visiting our blog. You cannot get more credits by voluntarily contributing money to Social Security. For more information, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions. Thanks, again.

    Good afternoon,
I was thinking about retiring from my current job next year (not paying SS at this current job); but I have 30 years from prior work and am eligible this November. I began the application process and it said I had to complete by January or I would not be eligible for benefits. What if I decide to continue at current job on part-time basis or locate another job that withholds ss? I am really unsure how this would affect my ss benefits, if I start receiving them in December or January.
