What to Do If You’re Missing Economic Impact Payments

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued the third round of Economic Impact Payments (EIP) in April. Most Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients should have received their EIPs by now. If you, your eligible spouse, or eligible dependent did not receive their EIP – or full amount of the EIP – for this round or any previous round of EIPs, please read this carefully. We have information to share from the IRS to help you get that money.

To get any missing first or second EIPs, you’ll need to file a 2020 tax return with the IRS and claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) as soon as possible. You would need to file the 2020 tax return even if you have no income to report for 2020. When your tax return is processed, the IRS will pay the RRC as a tax refund. The IRS will send you any additional third EIP amount you are eligible for in 2021 separately.

If you already filed your 2020 tax return, you don’t need to do anything else. You can visit our Economic Impact Payments and Tax Credits page to learn more. Please share this with your family and friends—and post it on social media to help us spread the word.

If you have questions about tax-related topics and economic impact payments, please contact the IRS.

Hi, my husband and I filed our taxes. His salary was over the limit so we don’t get a stimulus check. But we take care of all 4 of our deceased daughters children. Plus our adult daughter and her child. These are all of our dependents, and they should get a stimulus plus they get SSI. only one child got a $1400 check. What about the others? Need some answers please. Thanks

I’m 70 yrs old receiving S.S. Retirement benefits and my daughter has me as a dependent. I haven’t received any Stimulus $ nor has my daughter received any for me. Her income is @ $160k annually. I thought for the 3rd stimulus of $1400 adult dependents would be included to receive stimulus check. Am I not getting this correctly? Do I qualify even though my daughter may be above income cutoff? How do I file?

I received the first two economic impact payments but not a third. My 2020 IRS tax material has not yet been submitted but will be before the May 17 deadline. Should I be expecting a third economic impact payment (it is now May 5)?

The irs can’t find my info . I’m on ssi and receive my first stimulus payment. But my back account was closed so ssi gave me a direct express card so I didn’t get my $600 stimulus payment. I did what irs said to do to file taxes for the to rebate credit. I never received anything in the mail. I checked to get my payment website and it told me it went to your bank account that I do not recognize and they had no more information on me so I am denied the $600 credit rebate when I called I was on the phone line for 2 hours and 10 minutes and it could not find any information and I said I would have to wait 90 days to find out if I am eligible to get this credit rebate I know that I am eligible to receive this $600 payment it is ridiculous that the IRS cannot update the information when I turn in my tax information I did everything updated information on it and they could not find anything on it I should not have to wait any longer to receive this credit rebate $600. This is not my mistake this is the IRS that cannot handle more then what they can handle. Please help me to get my $600 credit rebate William L Beem if you need more information on me please ask me in your next response to my text

My wife, and I did not receive EIP Since April until this date today. So two or three missing, and we are not better for it. I am about to file my 2020 Tax filings so we’ll see if this has any impact on our situation. Either way it would be nice, and the responsible course of action to notify the recipient, and advise them how to take care of the problem.
