What to Do If You’re Missing Economic Impact Payments

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued the third round of Economic Impact Payments (EIP) in April. Most Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients should have received their EIPs by now. If you, your eligible spouse, or eligible dependent did not receive their EIP – or full amount of the EIP – for this round or any previous round of EIPs, please read this carefully. We have information to share from the IRS to help you get that money.

To get any missing first or second EIPs, you’ll need to file a 2020 tax return with the IRS and claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) as soon as possible. You would need to file the 2020 tax return even if you have no income to report for 2020. When your tax return is processed, the IRS will pay the RRC as a tax refund. The IRS will send you any additional third EIP amount you are eligible for in 2021 separately.

If you already filed your 2020 tax return, you don’t need to do anything else. You can visit our Economic Impact Payments and Tax Credits page to learn more. Please share this with your family and friends—and post it on social media to help us spread the word.

If you have questions about tax-related topics and economic impact payments, please contact the IRS.

If I failed to claim the recovery rebate credit on my 2020, is it proper to file an amended return?

    • Fahmi N.

Sure can just do it before new deadline May 17. Good luck

I’m 78, widowed, and have received both large stimulus checks, but not of the lesser ($600.00) check. Will I receive it, and when?

My EIP3 was deposited into an account I did not recognize on March 24th. To this day I have not received it. Status via Get My Payment, has not been updated since March 24th. I know I am eligible since I have received my first and second payments by paper check. The IRS tracking tool said paymen was SChEDULED for deposit to that strange account number. I have already filed my 2020 tax report -paper report. Calling IRS is useless, even their fax stays busy. I had just filed Form 3911 to trace my payment. I don’t know what else to do.?

What about the people that are not required to file tax returns based on their income? Some have filed returns even though they would not normally file. Many have not received Stimulus Payments since the first payment!

    • Cynthia

I wasn’t required to file, but filed 2/27/21 and still NOTHING! It says my tax return is still being processed and get my payment says it hasn’t processed it so what is the deal? Supposedly MOST SSDI/SSI recipients got their 3rd one in April…. It’s looking like that was a line to shut us up and appease those asking why we hadn’t got it when they have our DD info already!?!?

  7. Bell

What about the people that filed their tax returns but have not received any payment after the first stimulus check? May of these people normally would not file taxes because they rely on Social Security!

  8. jose l.

Hi, I am already retired and got the first stimulus check deposited.
That has been the only amount received.
What should I do to receive the other two?
Thank you for your kind reply
