Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

In 2017, SS took more than $4000.00 in overpayments. They did so illegally. I provided a letter from my employer confirming the error and the 33% subsidy. SS ignored the letter. I finally got a hearing in early 2020, but have no decision. They’re still taking money from my check each month. Today the Salt Lake office confirmed that the SSA has no deadlines and no obligation to respond with hearing decisions in a timely manner. Furthermore, when I requested a Reasonable Accommodation to help facilitate this process, she replied that the SSA isn’t subject to any laws pertaining to the rights of disabled customers. Is this true? Where can I get more information? She also told me I wasn’t allowed to ‘see’ the policy on deadlines. Please contact me right away to resolve these issues. Miya Clark

When will Social Security offices reopen? Need a date. Have been told to send my documents through the mail by someone at Social Security. Will Social Security pay the mailing fee if I send documents certified mail signed receipt? No way will I trust the mailing them any other way. At the very least I would have a receipt if my documents are lost or stolen through the mail. And if my documents reached Social security and were then lost, I would have a receipt I will know who signed for them. The American people are going through a very difficult time, they have paid taxes for years, and this is the service you are providing during a pandemic?

Wow what a disservice to those( the American taxpayers) who pay your salaries.

I have been waiting since April to update my name and get a new SS card reflecting the name change. Yes, I do need a replacement card. When I called in April I was told they weren’t issuing new cards till they reopened. Now, I cannot get ahold of anyone on the phone and I’m not going to just send in my legal ID documents through the mail for them to get lost or sat on for weeks. What is going to happen come tax time? Or when someone gets a new job or applies for housing? What are we supposed to say with our names only half way changed? SS office isn’t open? That’s not going to fly. You cannot create a system that depends on you then just shut it down with no alternative. The office needs to open back up to the public so we can get on with our lives.

Hi Eve, thanks for using our blog. We are still able to provide critical services. If you have a critical situation that we cannot help you with by phone, online, fax, or mail, we may be able to schedule an in-office appointment for you. Check out our Social Security and Coronavirus web page for more information.

Please update this website. It has not been updated since April.

I’m pretty sure the social security office can be opened safely at this point. As the rest of the world is.

If not, perhaps find a way we can get our documents certified and sent in so we do not have to send the original drivers license.

8 months should be enough time to have a plan. This pandemic is not going away any time soon.

    Please update us. Thank you.

I am not sure if cdr’s for disabilliy and Ssi are supposed to be occuring right now, or not? Hard to understand the status of things currently. But I have been given so much conflicting information regarding cdr’s, and people losing their disability payments during the covid-19 etc.. I have been going through these things recently with my case here in california, and it’s probably a matter of me not fully comprehending things, but I know here in california it really appears that they are completely going against what has been being stated on the site here and it really is starting to make me suspicious of the activities and rights of people here, because they have been hateful, very disuading regarding my case, have done some pretty over the top interrogation fear tactics during the beginning of my cdr, have even made fun of the letter of confirmation when the whitehouse contracted official’s regarding my cdr and application process.. something is really wrong with what is happening with my case and what is on the site, and believe me I trust this site and federal far more than I do the state.. way more.. but again it could be my lack of understanding of things. I wish I could find someone to help me with this because I have been going through the most fearful time of my life regarding my disabilities and being treated pretty horrible.. I don’t mean to sound whiney nor like anybody owes me anything, I’m just at my wit’s end with not knowing if I am being treated fairly, and fear for my life and we’ll being.. cause there’s no way I can hold any kind of gainful employment, and being disabled out in the street, honestly feels like a death sentence.. again sorry if Sound whiney, but it is what it is..

Social Security has Deducted Medicare from my monthly payments . Then kept the money and cancelled my Medicare. Proof is in my payment history. Now during this Pandemic I have no insurance. Local office has refused to fix it after saying they will during every phone call.
After many complaints I I mysteriously receive a refund check for one month. When Medicare was deducted every month.

    Please assist ASAP

Hi chris brown wife any one kno when ssa will re open?

Please, reopen Social Security Offices. The DMV, Schools, the Courthouse are reopened. Social Security needs to provide a way for the American People to drop off the important documents so that we can have our originals. If you are unable then a notarized copy should be acceptable as the court of California accepts that for a legal Name Change. Please, make it easier for an American citizen to make their name Change easier.

Once I started complaining they sent me a refund check for one month when they’ve deducted payments for all Months. I need Medicare. I’ve reached out to the local office several time a week since May. They say it will be fixed with every call but its not.

I am in the same situation. I need a status and legal name change but I cannot mail my original documents as requested. I need my drive license for driving my daughter to school every day. I must provide my updated SSN card for a job. I cannot miss this opportunity.
In addition, DMV will issue my new drive license ONLY after the change in the SSN card. I hope this will not affect my right to vote. PLEASE can I have an appointment soon?
