Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

The most up to date information that was issued by SSA, indicates that all hearings will be by telephone through the end of July, 2020. The decisions regarding “opening up” must be exclusively scientifically based. ALJ’s, clients/claimants, staff and representatives are in many cases sixty years of age and older, many are immunocompromised or have medical conditions that direct extreme caution. We must equip our ALJ’s fully to enable them to adjudicate effectively and safely. It is my opinion that our ALJ’s in many cases are not equipped to issue reliable decisions without seeing the claimant and that telephone hearings are only effective in some non-complex, well documented cases. Claimants and attorneys/reps must not be pressured into proceeding by telephone. The integrity of the SSA process supports the purposes of the Social Security Act, so that the cases that deserve payment are paid and those that do not are not brought or are appropriately denied, all hopefully at an early stage. Our duty, all of us observe our respective oaths, to do that right thing under the law, equally for claimants and the SSA.

Does anyone know if people currently waiting for Social Security/Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (DISABILITY) to make a decision on their Disability claim whom obviously didn’t work so didn’t file taxes?? I’ve submitted the “non-filers” form on the IRS website but I’m still yet to find any info on ppl w/ no income, no taxes.

Found out today if you didn’t pay OR didn’t get refund 2018 (that’s if you haven’t filed 2019) site to check status reads can’t be processed needs banking info. I only have small SS, 6200. In 2018 IRS has my SS # and direct deposit info. Only problem after entering all banking info it gives you only to lines to check, How much I paid OR How much was my refund. I did not have either, tried 0 that didn’t work. Found on internet IRS is aware of glitch regarding this and fixing it shortly. I hope I’m running out of groceries. My SS in 2019 was 6200. I’m on Medicaid. This is unacceptable.

I’m in no real rush for my check. I am buying something for about 1100, and then its gone. So ho hum. I eat wicked cheap meals all month and I am used to it. I’m not using delivery services….. screw that. And I will wipe my ass with socks if need be. Soap is still widely available. I’ll be damned if I am travelling the state looking for toilet paper. Disinfectants? Nope. I have other ways. I’m not going to sit at this governments feet waiting for their stimulus “emergency” checks. Wake up people, disabled and old don’t count in their eyes. No sir, not a single bit.

    • Terry M.

Michael, well I’m not part of the government, I am just an ordinary person just like you and you do count to a lot of people. Living life simple means we won’t miss the luxuries the others have come so accustomed to. If it wasn’t for the elderly others would not be here. Cheer up this will pass. Sending virtual hugs. Always be proud of who you are.
