Update on Our Reentry Plans

Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

    I started receiving retirment checks in September of 2021. I was still working but planned to retire at the end of September. Due to medical reasons. My employer asked me to take a new postion that may be I could handle. I sent in a letter I think was to stop my retirment payments. I am not able to do that job any longer and I have left my employment as of 01-01-22. How do I go about retiring again. thank you.

    It is beyond awful! I have been trying to apply to be a rep. payee for my disabled sister and have called the Hayward office everyday since 12/14/21! I’m still not in the system even though SSA has approved me!! My sister cannot pay her rent!! Open up the offices like everyone else!!! Ridiculous!!

You can ask to speak to a manager on your next call.  You can also submit feedback by visiting our Contact Social Security page. Once there, select the “Email Us” link. This will take you to the “Email A Question to our Support Team” form where you can complete and submit a compliment, complaint, or suggestion. We hope this is resolved soon.

    I have been trying to get my boys replacement social security cards for a year and a half and it is so damn difficult. They want us to send our actual drivers license and thats ridiculous. My oldest just turned 18 and he cant even get an ID. Come on now

    I applied for my disability benefits in February 2021. Still no answer. Why is it taking so long? I have called my local SSA office 3 times, and also called the office where my case is. I can’t get anywhere. I’m frustrated because I am financially strapped and also unable to work due to my disabling condition. I need an answer asap.

      I know, it’s literally unbearable. I’ve been on what feels like a death watch now, “waiting on their decision” since October of 2020. YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT. Oh, and a necessary heart surgery has been on hold (pending medicare, bc Medicaid is actually useless when you’re disability requires specialists), Anyway, Heart Surgery has been on hold Since………. August of 2021 (even my dr’s are thinking contingencies, like wtf I know I’m only 37 but ffs I would rather be working with my patients not being one!) Sorry for that random rant, guess I needed to vent 🥲. I wish you much better luck & Hope you hear something soon!! 🙏💜

We are sorry to hear about your situation. The length of time it takes to receive a decision on your disability claim can vary depending on several factors: primarily, the nature of your disability, how quickly we obtain medical evidence from your doctor or other medical sources, and if your claim is randomly selected for a quality assurance review of the decision. We encourage you to continue working with your local office.       even under the best of circumstances it takes 2+ years to get through the appeals and to the hearing stage

      John, Let me help. First, get a myssa account. From there you should be able to see the status of your disability application. The fact that SSA did not put that in your comment is concerning. 2. If you have not gotten ANY acknowledgement of your claim since you filed – FILE again immediately. Then use your proof of prior filing to get the “protective filing date” back dated to your original filing. Hope this helps.

    I have been trying to get into an office to get information fixed on my Social Security card for who knows how long. I keep getting told its not urgent enough to be seen but my entire life is on hold until it’s fixed. Every other government office is open. I don’t even know how this is legal. I understand requiring appointments, but this is out of hand. I am absolutely at my wits end.

    SSA is just laughing at all of us. All Federal agencies have re-opened even more than a year ago. Why do they think they are so special? Open the d* office and do your work. And then want us to send official and sensitive documents by mail to SSA office hopping they will review them and return them and nothing will get lost. If you want to do remote fine, but move everything to remote and not half way. Other agencies have moved everything to remote without need to send sensitive info through mail. Videoconference works fine

    I have applied for my SSA retirement benefit on September 7, 2021 and still waiting for a notification letter to inform me when will I be receiving my benefit. It’s been 4 months now, what’s the hold up?

    I am volunteering with a homeless organization. I am trying to figure out how to get cards for a population that does not have addresses?

      The homeless shelters help with that literally. They give safe addresses. Unless they move out of shelter. PO Boxes at the local post office can help as well.

    I’ve tried since Dec. To get an appointment to change my last name on ss card they tell me they will send it over the computer to the main office and have yet to receive a call back for the appointment my 60 days to have it changed ends on the 15th of this month would some please help me and let me know something. ASAP
