The IRS will issue the EIPs via direct deposit and Direct Express starting today, May 22, to the same direct deposit account or Direct Express card as the recipient’s monthly Social Security or SSI payment. Paper check EIPs will be mailed starting May 27.

Visit our website to learn about EIPs and representative payees. You can find the eligibility requirements and other information about the EIPs at the IRS’ Economic Impact Payment Information Center.

Despite your information that Social Security recipients would receive their EIPs via their regular direct deposit accounts, my wife and I received both our $1,200 and $600 EIPs by mail in the form of paper checks. We live in Japan and have been receiving our SS benefit payments here via direct deposit for over 20 years. As Japanese banks do not offer personal checking accounts, we could not deposit our EIP checks and had to cash them at our bank at a VERY high cost. Can this be corrected for any future EIPs?

Hello teresa, I’m a random person that was browsing this site and noticed your question wasn’t acknowledge/answered. I’m not sure why.

My mother has received the 600 but never the first 1200. Calls and messages were left unanswered, login is disabled because they claim I asked too many times about her status of the check. what is to do when it comes for income reporting on taxes. should we expect something on tax returns or that is going to even more complicate things if your records show you sent it and she never received anything ?

I Willie Hamilton didn’t get the $600.00 from Covid, because it was put into the wrong bank account. The first $1200.00 went in, right. This one did not. What should I do to get my money from the government?

can i receive pua and ssi and it not effect ssi?

    • Vonda

Hi Duncan, thank you for your question. Unemployment benefits do not affect or reduce Social Security retirement and disability benefits. State unemployment compensation payments are not wages because they are paid due to unemployment rather than employment. However, income from Social Security may reduce your unemployment compensation. Contact your state unemployment office for information on how your state applies the reduction.

If you’re receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), unemployment insurance benefits are considered unearned income. If you, your spouse, or a child living in your household have any income other than your Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, including unemployment insurance benefits, you must tell us.

To learn more about SSI and how income affects your payment, read What You Need to Know When You Get Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

        “Resource/asset”
Some rural NH SSA offices are counting economic stimulus payments as “resources/assets.” I have proof. Evidently, their workers require coaching on stimulus legislation. Some NH SSA workers are continuously making remarks to clients such as, “Policies and laws on stimulus payments update frequently.” That is not true. I wish federal SSA bureau would monitor state SSA offices more closely.

I had been out of work and collecting on a PUA claim during that time a few of my diseases MS , Syactica and type 1 diabetes became so bad that my doctors and I realized it would be nearly impossible for me to return to work. I filed for disability and am currently awaiting a decision. I have stopped my PUA claim as soon as I filed but should I be concerned about collection on the PUA claim during the time that my initial onset began?
