Top 5 Scam ResourcesEarlier this month, we hosted our second annual National “Slam the Scam” Day to raise awareness of government imposter telephone scams. In case you missed anything, we put together a list of the five most important scam resources you should know about:

    I think I just got scammed by someone who represented social security. They left a message on my phone. I listened and it was from social security so I called them back. When I called the number showed up as Social Security Teleservice Center 1 855 249 4175. A woman named Margie left her extension as 4015055. She said she had my application for social security. I am reaching 70 in May so I called her back since she said she had my application.
    She asked if she was speaking to me Nancy Bruce. I said she was. She asked me for my social security number and I told her I was not going to give it to her. However, she said I could call the Social Security Administration office in Salinas, CA to verify this call.
    I thought I was an intelligent professional but I must of have a Senior Moment and gave her my social security number. I didn’t give her any further information. Now I think I have been scammed. Please contact by email.

      Hi, Nancy. We’re sorry, but we do not have a list of all of the possible phone numbers that Social Security uses. What we can tell you is that we do not usually make random calls. If someone calls you saying that they are from Social Security, do not give them your personal information. Instead, contact your local Social Security office or call 1-800-772-1213 to see whether we really need any information from you. We hope this helps.

    I put my car up for collateral can they take it even though I get less than the poverty level of Social Security retirement
