One letter in the first name on my social security card is incorrect. For some reason the person who transcribed my name for SS 20 plus years ago put Kaltlin, instead of the more common and certainly more correct Kaitlin. I’m not sure if this failure was due to mere incompetence or antisemitism (I have a Jewish-sounding last name). When looking on the social security website for solutions to remediate this issue, I found the instructions utterly confusing. For instance, in order to prove my name I need to submit my driver’s license – however, as I’m sure anyone knows, I need the physical copy of my driver’s license to, you know, drive. Can someone at the social security administration chime in me offer a solution?

Hi Kaitlin, thank you for your question. Check out our Social Security and Coronavirus web page for details on the documents you need to mail in with your Social Security card application to get a replacement card with your new name. We hope this helps!

Someone created a mySocialSecurity account in my 80 year old mothers name and then changed her direct deposit information! She has been trying to resolve this with SSA since early this month, but still no resolution. CAN NOT REACH anyone at our local Fort Worth office! She has been told multiple times to contact her local office. THEY DO NOT ANSWER PHONES! It seems like they are unwilling to help her get her deposit information updated. Being told she would have her payment within 10 days, but when it didn’t arrive she was told she gave them the wrong routing number. I came home yesterday to her in tears due to frustration. SSA needs to do a better job servicing the retirees they are paid to assist!

Hi Tammy, thank you for using our blog. We are very sorry to hear about the difficulties your mother is experiencing. Please have your mother contact us. She can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or she can call her local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

She just told you the local Fort Worth office does not answer her calls. NOT HELPFUL!

My computer was hacked March 15, 2021. The hackers had access to my computer and my social security number, as well as other important information. My question is if I need to get a new number or wait and see if they try to use it. So far they haven’t tampered with my bank accounts.

    • Vonda

Hi Martha, thanks for using our blog. Generally, identity theft issues are handled by the Federal Trade Commission. Visit http://www.identitytheft.gov to report identity theft and get a recovery plan or call 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338).

Visit our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on what you can do if you think someone is using your Social Security number.

Why are the seniors and the disabled being penalized. Why are we not receiving our stimulus payments. But yet I’ve talked with younger people who are paying their dealers off with it. We are continuously being told different dates. I am on ssdi ssa ssi and i would like to eat also. If there is a problem why we are not receiving payment then tell us what the problem is so maybe we can clear it up .i don’t even have the money to pay my phone i have to use my neighbor s phone

    • Cynthia T.

I am going through the same process .

I do not know why. If you filed you taxes on line and have a routing and account number. You should have received it by now. We got ours 9-days ago but still waiting for pour first stimulus check from a year ago.. Should get it with my 2020 tax refund. Check with the IRS and see if they have your correct info. IRS.gov

Your income was not compromised. People lost jobs while you set at home like always. Your fixed income is still fixed and if you couldn’t pay your phone then you shouldn’t have it. My mom is on fixed income too and she would like the stimulus too but she is not bashing other ppl who got it or worry about how they spent theirs.
