I can’t create a “My Social Security” account. When trying to verify my information (name/SSN/address/etc.) it tell me my information cannot be verified, and I’ve now been locked out twice. Tried calling the hotline and waited an hour before giving up. Is anyone at the SSA working?

    • Lucie W.

No I doubt it. I can’t log in and they say that I put in the wrong information. They locked up my account.
I have tried to call their 1 800 number.

After 38 years I and my spouse married, I read that it is my responsibility to report this change in status to the ssa. I am having trouble doing this. I talked to an ssa person ( 30 minutes on hold )and was told there was no reason to update my status. Help out with a form or other means to report

    • Ann C.

Hi, M.D. If you receive retirement or Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) benefits, your marriage will not affect your benefit. If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), widow or widower’s benefits, your marriage may affect your benefit. To learn more about how marriage affects benefits, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions. We hope this helps.

I applied for social security on Jan. 13. I click the date option to start my benefits in Jan, 2022. When the application is approved will I get paid starting on Jan. 1 2022?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Mark. Retirement benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if your want your benefits to begin with the month of January, you will receive your benefits in February. The exact payment date is determined by your date of birth. We hope this helps.

When will offices reopen? Other state and federal offices are open and have found a way to deal with Covid. Why not the Social Security office? At a time when there are so many scams on the internet many people do not feel secure submitting personal information on line.

Use Social Networking sites but with safety. Great post to aware with social sites.
