Supplemental Security Income Recipients Will Receive Automatic COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

The Treasury Department announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department.  Treasury anticipates these automatic payments to go out no later than early May.

SSI recipients with no qualifying children do not need to take any action in order to receive their $1,200 economic impact payment. The payments will be automatic.

SSI recipients who have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should now go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info section to provide their information. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If SSI beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait until later to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

This is great news for SSI recipients, and I want to remind recipients with qualifying children to go to IRS.gov soon so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for. I also want to thank the dedicated employees of the Treasury Department, Social Security, and the Internal Revenue Service for making this happen and working non-stop on this issue.

SSI Recipients with Dependent Children Should Still Go To IRS.gov to Provide Their Information

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries (who don’t normally file taxes) will also qualify for automatic payments of $1,200 from Treasury. These payments are anticipated to start arriving around the end of April.

The Treasury Department, not Social Security, will make these automatic payments to beneficiaries. Recipients will generally receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their SSI or Social Security benefits.

For those SSI and Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, with dependent children, who use Direct Express debit cards, additional information will be available soon regarding the steps to take when claiming children under 17, on the IRS website.

Please note that the agency will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

For more information about Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, please see our most recent blog.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found on the IRS website. In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.

  2. Tesha

What if you are the payee of someones check will the person who check the person over still get a check

    • Were t.

Depends on alot of factor’s age, did anybody claim them as a dependent, you didn’t mention that so an answer is difficult and if not sure it can be looked up .

  3. SSI d.

Still waiting no info it seems while I watch everyone else go spend their checks I’m starving

  4. Gerald h.

Bad news…we won’t get it til next week at the earliest

The IRS has given a deadline to everyone SSI,SSDI,Vets and railroad retired til Wednesday April 22nd to update their information to include kids for the 500$

This is not a lie, google it yourself

    • David S.

Link or nope. Too much bull shit around here.

      • Gerald

        I’ve tried posting the link
        It’s a Forbes article
        Just google
        SSDI stimulus direct deposit

      • Gerald h.

        Believe me yet?

        • Joel B.

Doesn’t matter to me. They’re still sending me a check despite the initial “1099 Direct Deposit” claim. Its all bullshit.

    • ssdi i.

LOL REMEMBER WHEN I TOLD PEOPLE THEY WERENT EVEN GOING TO START WORKING ON IT UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH BECAUSE REALLY ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS PUSH SEND AND PEOPLE CALLED ME A TROLL? TOLD ME I DIDNT KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT AND THEY WERE GONNA GET DIRECT DEPOSITS THIS WEEK?
WELL I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU IDIOTS WHO LISTENED: HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GET DIRECT DEPOSITS ON THE 22ND WHEN THEY HAVENT EVEN STARTED LOOKING AT SSD RECIPIENTS FILES ON MONDAY? HOW? I DONT LIKE JESSICA AND I DONT LIKE HER LIFESTYLE BUT SHIT ATLEAST SHE WAS SMART ENOUGH TO GET IN HER NON FILERS AT THE BEGINNING BECAUSE THATS AN OPTION THOSE OF US ON SSD DIDNT HAVE THAT IS GOING TO PUSH OR DEPOSIT DATES WELL INTO MAY. IM NOT A FUCKING GRANDPA BTW.

      • Will B.

I actually did get my “non-filers” sent in and accepted weeks ago, hasn’t done me any good. you make my point for me…yes it is just PUSH SEND! this isn’t brain surgery, or even choosing a healthcare plan…and people dont need to die, starve, be homeless while the applications are being processed. it can always be corrected later, really doesn’t seem that difficult to me.

    • Gerald h.

I believe those dates are checks
      Not direct deposit

  6. Face r.

I am the point it’ll show up when it shows up

You say SSDI by the end of April that’s what 10 days away

Like they say in the Army

“Hope for the best, prepare for the worst”

They haven’t missed our date, they clearly state that the portal won’t work for us.

If it’s not here by the end of April for SSDI then start complaining

  7. jess

Everyone I know its frustrating, I know this blog has turned into a mess. I think this pandemic and loss, fear and angry and worry has made so many do and say things that are likely out of character. We are almost there, its a few more days. Hang in there

  8. Will B.

Is it just me or is everyone else tired of hearing…”in the near future” or “before early May” or “as fast as we can”, or “process if you qualify”….and at the same time tell people to stay home, save lives. So, I tell my landlord please dont evict my family, I will pay my rent/mortgage “sometime in the future” or the power company, or even my kids “we’ll be able to buy food sometime in early May?” I literally sleep in my car as I worry it will be repossessed, I/We as citizens have done what we were asked/told to do, stay home. But people are literally dying! We have the best IT people in the world, we have the largest servers in the world that can track every phone call, email, text etc in real time. But we cant deposit, process TAX PAYER FUNDED, payments in faster than this. Really? I’m sorry, but my head is going to explode if I hear “we’re doing a great job”, “working as fast as we can”. there is no acceptable reason or excuse for this. So what if someone gets $1200 that wasn’t qualified. Get the dang money out, to save lives. Then, go back to what the IRS always does, an audit. If someone got $1200 that shouldn’t then take it back sometime in the future. Happens everyday in this country. I am begging the American people to stop making excuses for this administration, of course the career IRS people are not morons, the morons are the people that couldn’t see this coming in the first place. They president, treasury whoever, wanted to hurry up just so they could say “we are so great and the President is so wonderful” but it never occurred to them how it would work logistically? Seriously, if I go try to find food to feed my family tonight, I could be fined $1,000 or go to jail! But this administration/government are they missing meals, being evicted? It’s truly dumbfounding that the UNITED STATES cant’ do better than this. I’ll stay home and save lives if you send the financial resources(tax payer funded), to save lives.

    • deane

Next time, don’t vote in an ass. People that like him only do so because they are republicans and don’t want a democrat in. Good. Suffer like this another 4 years….. that is, if you survive.

      • SheepleAreStupid

Voting is a literal placebo. The ELECTORAL COLLEGE decides the president. Not the citizens of the United States. Yet for some reason so many idiots believe THE VOTE actually gives them a say in how our govt. is run. It’s all one big con. You people who believe in THE VOTE are a joke. You don’t have the faintest clue how our system of govt. actually works and if you did, you would find something else to attack each other over to make your stupid selves feel superior, when, in reality, you’re the biggest fools to walk the face of this god forsaken planet.

        • danny

Ok trumpie. Go fuck yourself, with a 2×4.

      • Will B.

Could Not AGREE more, just didn’t want to turn this into a Trump/Repubs back and forth. This is about people dying and the complete failure of yes TRUMP, I said it…My point and I’ve been screaming to anyone that will hear it is this country is NOT TRUMP/MNUCHIN country…this OF THE PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, and in this current situation FOR THE PEOPLE. It’s our taxes that are paying for this, not like Trump or anybody is lending us their own money. Said it earlier, it’s real easy to tell people to stay home and save lives, and we did. But now it’s the governments turn to SAVE LIVES! Please again I’m begging, dont turn this into a Trump/Repub/ Dem debate, for god’s sake there’s plenty of time for that…Republican citizens, Trump voters, everyone is affected by this…so please turn whatever frustration you have not at each other but to those who hold the keys. It’s unacceptable no matter what you believe. Families, like mine are going days without food, not just Democrat families, Republican Families, Libertarian Families…we are better than this, we have the technology and the logistical expertise to get this done faster, no more people have to die, starve, get evicted, no more suffering needs to happen. the only way though is by the people, no one else. no major policy changes have in our history ever happened without the everyday people demanding it. sorry I’m rambling but I cant wait any longer, I cant look into the eyes of kids and not have food…how can anyone?

  9. Craig

It was stated that the lowest income people would get their stimulus checks first. So why are SSI, SSA, and the disabled getting theirs AFTER the tax payers? Why did these poorest not get theirs FIRST?

    • Frances M.

Its interesting to how stimulus 1200 is no longer constantly popping up in my news feature, since most tax payers have already received theirs. Its like the urgency doesn’t apply to us.

    • ssdi i.

OH THATS CALLED A BOLD FACED LIE. PAR THE COURSE FOR THESE POLITICIANS. ALWAYS FUCKING OVER THE LITTLE GUY WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACES WHILE DOING IT.
EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN HERE FROM THE BEGINNING WENT FROM CALLING ME A TROLL AND BELIEVING THEY WERE GOING TO GET THEIR STIM PAY THIS WEEK YO REGURGITATING EXACT THINGS I TOLD THEM THAT THEY SCOFFED AT LAST WEEKEND.
LISTEN. YOU ARE NOT GETTING YOUR STIM CHECK IF YOU ARE ON SSD UNTIL PROBABLY MID MAY. THIS IS BY DESIGN. THEY KNOW YOU BARELY CAN SURVIVE OFF SSD WHEN ITS NOT A HEALTH CRISIS. DO YOU REALLY THINK THE PEOPLE IN POWER DONT UNDERSTAND THAT IF, ABLE BODIED PEOPLE WITH WAY HIGHER INCOMES ARE IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND NEED MONEY NOW TO LITERALLY SURVIVE, THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE ALREADY AT RISK OF NOT SURVIVING DONT NEED THEIRS FIRST?
ALOT OF YOU PEOPLE ARE WAKING UP TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS A TARGETED HIT ON OUR DEMOGRAPHIC.
I MEAN REALLY THINK ABOUT IT: ITS A VIRUS THAT TARGETS THE DISABLED AND ELDERLY RIGHT? YET THE DISABLED AND ELDERLY ARE THE LAST TO GET THIS STIMULUS MONEY? DOESNT IT SEEM ODD TO YOU GUYS THAT IF HEALTHY YOUNG PEOPLE ARE BEING GIVEN EXTRA TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES THAT A WHOLE GROUP WHO LITERALLY ARE THE VAST MAJORITY DYING FROM THE DISEASE ARE BEING TOLD TO WAIT WEEKS AND WEEKS FOR MONEY THAT EVERYONE KNOWS COULD SAVE OUR LIVES?
OF COURSE THEY KNOW. THIS IS A BIOLOGICAL ATTACK ON THE UNDESIRABLES OF SOCIETY. DONT BE AN IDIOT. THINK. WHY WOULD THE GOVERNMENT NOT BE GOING OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP THE SPECIFIC GROUP OF PEOPLE THIS VIRUS IS KILLING? LOL AND THE WHOLE TIME ALL THESE PRICES ARE GOING UP AND RESOURCES ARE DWINDLING. ALL THE ACTUAL THINGS WE NEED TO SURVIVE ARE SELLING OUT OR PRICED DOUBLE. TYLENOL IS DOUBLE. MASKS ARE TRIPLE. THIS IS WHATS CALLED A WAR OF ATTRITION. OF COURSE THE GOVERNMENT KNOWS WHO MAKES THE LEAST AND THEREFORE WHO IS THE MOST AT RISK AND IN NEED. THATS THE POINT. THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING TARGETED FOR DEATH.
GOD BLESS. JUST HOLD ON. TRY YOUR BEST TO STAY ISOLATED FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN FOR THE REST OT THIS MONTH (10 DAYS)
THEN PRAY YOU ARE PART OF THE GROUP BEING PAID ON THE FIRST AND NOT THE GROUP THAT WILL BE ISSUED PAPER CHECKS ON THE FIRST AND GET THEM THIS TIME NEXT MONTH.
NOT TRYING TO BRING PEOPLE DOWN BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS. NONE OF YOU ON SSD WILL RECEIVE ANYTHING IN APRIL. BY DESIGN. SSA, IRS AND THE TREASURY DECIDED TO FUCK US OVER AND HOLD OUR CHECKS AS LONG AS THEY CAN TO KILL OFF AS MANY OF THE UNDESIRABLES AS THEY CAN UNTIL THE REST OF THE POPULATION CATCHES ON AND THATS WHY THEY MADE SURE THEY GOT PAID IN TWO WEEKS AND ARE TRYING TO MAKE US WAIT FOR SIX TO EIGHT TO STARVE US OUT KNOWING WE BARELY CAN PAY OUR BILLS AS IS.. IM REALLY PRAYING FOR US ALL LIVING UNDER THE RULE OF THE WICKED.
AND JESSICA ITS NOT FUNNY THAT SSI RECIPIENTS TOOK THIS DEPOSIT WEEK FROM US. YOU GUYS WERE ALWAYS GOING TO BE PAID THIS WEEK IF YOU JUST FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND YOU SHOULD FEEL LUCKY YOU LISTENED IN THE BEGINING SO THAT YOU WILL BE PAID WEDNESDAY. BUTTHE REST OF SSI RECIPIENTS WHO DIDNT LISTEN WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MAY LIKE THOSE OF US ON SSD SO YOU GUYS COMPLAINING REALLY HURT YOUR OWN GROUP AND OUR GROUP AS WELL. BUT I BET THAT DOESNT MATTER TO YOU AS LONG AS YOU GOT YOUR CHECK RIGHT? SMH. PROBABLY HAVE THREE KIDS ON SSI TOO RIGHT? YOU MIGHT THINK YOU ARE GETTING OVER BUT THATS NO WAY TO LIVE AND REVELING IN THE MISERY OF OTHERS IS NOT FUNNY. ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG ACTUALLY NEED THAT MONEY TO SURVIVE THIS EPIDEMIC AND YOURE PROBABLY YOUNG AND JUST BEING GREEDY. BUT DAMN ISNT THAT HOW IT ALWAYS IS? ANYWAYS I HOPE YOU ALL STAY SAFE AND KEEP ON KEEPING ON. GONE.

      • jessica

First of all you dont know me. Yes I am a mother of three beautiful children and a new born in November who is also on ssi so we are getting a large check 2400 plus 2000 so thats over 4000 i think but we are good people and we need that money for video games, phones and stuff to do for the quarantine grandpa lmao. Why are you so jealous? Im just milking the system that you worked for like a sucker your whole disabled life lmao. Ssd people are used to being poor so what is the big frigging deal grandpa? Hurry up and die and stop being a hater. I am 27 yo so im not a child that has no experience and i know you are really just mad because you are old and everyone wants you old people to hurry up and die like you said That stuff made sense i mean if its a disease that mostly kills old disabled people then the government is letting you die on purpose. So im right! lmao you will be ok just keep praying sucker! April 22nd i will be paid i dont have to pray chump lmao!

        • TakeYourMeds

You all need to take your meds.

        • Tiffany S.

          Jessica,
The things you are saying about the elderly who worked hard and are disabled will come back to bite you one day. Just be grateful you and your family are safe, healthy and not suffering. Everyoone isn’t so blessed my dear. Be well and show respect to your elders this man has helped me understand what’s going on and manage my expectations. I’m one of the people he is talking about I’m on disability and can’t go outside for supplies due to the virus so I have to pay someone to do it for me. Which means I can’t afford my medication for a while but I’m holding on as best as I can and I look forward to reading what “ssd isnt welfare ssi is” has to say because he is the only one who knew what he was talking about weeks ago and still does.

Child Support (Sexist Extortion followed by Unconstitutional Debtor’s Prison) is a sexist and criminal joke and should be abolished, especially if our nation starts giving everyone a Universal Basic Income.
