Supplemental Security Income Recipients Will Receive Automatic COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

The Treasury Department announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department.  Treasury anticipates these automatic payments to go out no later than early May.

SSI recipients with no qualifying children do not need to take any action in order to receive their $1,200 economic impact payment. The payments will be automatic.

SSI recipients who have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should now go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info section to provide their information. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If SSI beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait until later to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

This is great news for SSI recipients, and I want to remind recipients with qualifying children to go to IRS.gov soon so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for. I also want to thank the dedicated employees of the Treasury Department, Social Security, and the Internal Revenue Service for making this happen and working non-stop on this issue.

SSI Recipients with Dependent Children Should Still Go To IRS.gov to Provide Their Information

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries (who don’t normally file taxes) will also qualify for automatic payments of $1,200 from Treasury. These payments are anticipated to start arriving around the end of April.

The Treasury Department, not Social Security, will make these automatic payments to beneficiaries. Recipients will generally receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their SSI or Social Security benefits.

For those SSI and Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, with dependent children, who use Direct Express debit cards, additional information will be available soon regarding the steps to take when claiming children under 17, on the IRS website.

Please note that the agency will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

For more information about Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, please see our most recent blog.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found on the IRS website. In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.

My daughter is a SSI recipient. Her account can never exceed $2000 by the end of the month. Does this mean that the stimulus money that she will receive must be spent by the end of the month as well?

    • V.V.

Hi Thomas, thank you for using our blog to ask your question. Social Security will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months. We hope this helps.

i have a question i’m on ssi n i have been told that i would get one on the 17th of this month but i have yet to see anything i can’t file taxes but i just started to work will i still get a stimulus check?

        • V.V.

Hi Mickie, thank you for your question. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May.

So, basically the money will arrive around the first during the normal SSI payments. Thanks a lot director of the decision for it. This will really help the people who need supplies such as TP, hand sanitizer, disinfectant sprays…plus food, that are already having to pay more because it’s less common in stores. Now they can’t afford it without stimulus help! Good go !

In my opinion, i think if they said ssdi will get it at the end of april, and ssi will get it at the beginning of may ? I feel it will be on may 1st for all of us and technically may 1st is the end of april and the beginning of may? i would think it makes sence to do one big deposit for the ssdi and ssi since we will be paid benifits. On may 1st , so i think its a thought only ,would they do the stimulus and our benifits. As one all together for the beneficiary holder ? Remember its only a thought its not concrete, and one other thing did some ever thought that ssi for some are born disabled with special needs and special challenge ! That those people cant work cant comprehend what life is about ? Them people have no voice to stand up for them selfs, for they do not know better, ! Im not perfect im not all together either, and god bless us ALL.

      NOPE
WE AS SSDI AND SSI ARE GOING TO GET OUR CHECKS MID MAY. I HAVE IT ON REALLY GOOD SOURCES THAT EVERYTHING IS PUSHED BACK AND SSI FORCED ITS WAY INTO OUR DEPOSIT GROUP SO THATS WAY MORE WORK AND THEY HAVENT EVEN FINISHED THE FIRST WAVE OF STIMULUS AND WONT FOR ATLAEST ANOTHER WEEK SO WE ALL ON SSDI AND SSI ARE GOING TO HAVE OUR DEPOSIT DATES PUSHED BACK UNTIL MID MAY AND DONT BE SURPRISED IF ITS CLOSER TO JUNE BECAUSE THEY HAVE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF SSI TO SORT AND THEIR PAPERWORK IS HARDER BECAUSE THEY DONT GET A 1099 SO THATS JUST WHAT IT IS . SORRY FOR THE BAD NEWS BUT AT LEAST NOW YOU ALL HAVE A REAL TIME LINE AND CAN STOP THINKING YOU ARE GETTING PAID THIS WEEK. IF YOU NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS WEEK AND LAST WEEK IS LAST WEEK PEOPLE STARTED GETTING THEIR CHECKS ON SATURDAY IN ANTICIPATION OF THE CHECKS HITTING BY TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY. WHEREAS TODAY NOONE ON SSDI IS REPORTING GETTING A CHECK BECAUSE THEY ARENT EVEN TRYING TO SEND US CHECKS UNTL ATLEAST MAY. BELIEVE ME I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS BUT HAVE FAITH AND THE LORD OUR GOD WILL PROVIDE.

    GOOD MORNING
YESTERDAY I INFORMED YOU ALL OF WHATS REALLY GOING ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND I WAS ACCUSED OF BEING A TROLL FOR THE EFFORT. BUT THE TRUTH REMAINS THAT IF YOU ARE A DISABLED PERSON AND ARE RECEIVING ANY FORM OF DISABILITY OR SSI YOU ARE ON THE PROVERBIAL BACK OF ZE BUS. THOU SHALL NOT TOUCH THIS PAPER UNTIL AT LEAST MAY!
WE AS A GROUP JUST ARE NOT A PRIORITY LIKE THAT. FIRST THEY HAVE TO PAY ALL THE ABLE BODIED LAZY BUMS WHO CLOGGED UP THE NON FILER SYSTEM, THEN THE ILLEGAL MEXICAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THEN THE PEOPLE MAKING $74,999 A YEAR AND THEN THEY ARE KNEE DEEP IN SSI RECIPIENTS WHO BITCHED ABOUT HAVING TO USE THE NON FILER TOOL UNTIL THEY GOT LUMPED IN WITH THOSE OF US ON SSDI WHICH PUSHED OUR DEPOSIT DATE BACK FROM APRIL 17TH – 24TH TO MID MAY REALISTICALLY.
SO YOU GUYS SHOULD JUST STOP ASKING WHEN YOUR STIMULUS CHECK IS GOING TO COME. IF YOU HAVENT GOTTEN IT AND YOU ARE DISABLED ON BENEFITS YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET IT UNTIL NEXT MONTH AT THE EARLIEST.
IT IS WHAT IT IS. WE WOULD BE WAKING UP TO OUR CHECKS TODAY BUT SSI LATCHED ONTO US AND EFFECTIVELY DRAGGED OUR PAYMENT DATE ALL THE WAY TO WHERE THEIRS WAS, STILL IS AND WOULD HAVE BEEN NO MATTER WHAT AND BASICALLY GAVE THE IRS AN EXCUSE NOT TO HAVE TO MEET THE DEADLINE TO PAY SSA AND TO BE HONEST IT IS OUR FAULT.
SSI IS NOT SSDI IT JUST IS NOT AND WE SHOULD STOP ALLOWING THEM TO PRETEND IT IS SO THAT THEY CAN GET THE FEW PERKS THAT WE GET BECAUSE WE WORKED AND PAID IN. MOST OF US WORKED WITH OUR DISABILITIES UNTIL OUR BODIES JUST COULD NO LONGER DO IT, WE HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO OUR INSURANCE. WHEREAS THESE PEOPLE ON SSI ARE USUALLY LAZY PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ON SSI SINCE BIRTH BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS TAUGHT THEM TO BE LAZY AS WELL. THESE PEOPLE NEVER TRIED TO WORK AND THEY SIT ON THIS BLOG WITH ALLEGED DISABILITIES AND ACT ENTITLED. AND WE ACCEPT IT AS IF THEY ARE NOT A STEP HIGHER THAN AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT THEMSELVES. THAT ENTITLEMENT IS WHY THOSE OF US WHO PAID INTO THE SYSTEM NOW HAVE TO WAIT THREE WEEKS TO GET A CHECK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE RIGHT NOW.
ITS CRY BABIES LIKE JULIANA WHO IS 24 AND OTHERS ON SSI WHO ARE NOT VISUALLY IMPAIRED BUT CRIED BLOODY MURDER WHEN ASKED TO FILL OUT THE SIMPLE TAX FORM THAT IRONICALLY NOW WE ALL HAVE TO FILL OUT THANKS TO THEIR LAZINESS AND BELLY ACHING.
AND WHAT GOOD DID IT DO?
ALL IT DID WAS EXPOSE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE FRAUDULENT MORALLY CORRUPT LIARS. LIKE JULIANA YESTERDAY WHO IS APPARENTLY THE ONY SSI RECIPENT IN AMERICA WHO RECEIVED A DEPOSIT LOL. JUST LYING FOR NOTHING. JUST LYING TO WIN AN ARGUMENT WITH SOME IMAGINARY PERSON THAT HER INTEGRITY SHOULD TELL HER IS NOT WORTH LYING ABOUT.
AND IF SHE IS LYING ABOUT THAT YOU KNOW SHE IS LYING ABOUT HER ALLEGED DISABILITY..
OR ASHLEY WHO POPS OUT BABY AFTER BABY SHE CANT AFFORD AND IMMEDIATELY PUTS THEM ON SSI. ITS PATHETIC AND WE AS PEOPLE WITH REAL DISABILITIES HAVE ALLOWED PEOPLE WITH “DEPRESSION” TO CLAIM OUR STRUGGLE WHEN IF THATS THE CASE WE SHOULD BE GETTING A CHECK FOR BOTH OUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AS WELL LOL.

    • No o.

Is your keyboard on your phone broke?
      No need for all caps

Who do you know “behind closed doors”

SSDI goes with the second wave of checks
      SSI is in May
SSDI does not get pushed further cause of SSI
      It says that literally everywhere

I see people whining about what people are spending their stimulus funds on. I honestly don’t care what people spend their stimulus funds on. The point of the stimulus funds is to stimulate the economy. Not to fulfill some ethical or moral obligation. THAT being said, I have no intention of wasting mine like some idiot. I’m far more practical than that. …and to the rest of you wannabe dictators, keep your opinions to yourselves. This site wasn’t created to be your soapbox. Seriously. Get lives and stop bothering people.

    • Jason

      Pot calling the kettle black.
No one gives a fuck about your opinions, either.

      • Nunya

Good. Do you feel better now that you’ve sh@#posted? Must be a relief to get that out. How long you been holding that turd in?

  6. Gilberto

If I’m the mother of my ssi son, benefits are under my name cause he is under10yrs old but my older son has put him on his income as a dependent do i qualify for a stimulus check.

    • Peter

I belive you get nothing, because your son was claimed by his brother. On his returns ! But the one who claim him , will get 500.00 only and you get zilch nothing, maybe i think by some kind of rights of a family thing he should give you the 500.00, good luck god bless

    • V.V.

Hi Gilberto, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

  7. Tyra O.

Thank you Tammara Shy. I feel the same way.

  8. Danyelle

If you’re on SSI or SSDI or VA or Rail Road worker you do not have to file anything unless you have children 17 yrs of age or under, if you have kids you need to file the paperwork so you can receive the $500pee child, if you have the Direct Express card and you do not have children the IRS already has your information and your stimuluos check will be directly deposited on to your card, if you have a bank account or I believe ( don’t quote me on this) a pay pal account your money will go there. You do not need to file a tax form unless in fact you do pay taxes. Even if you haven’t filed 2019 taxes yet they have your bank information from last year, unless you switched banks in which case you do need to give them the correct bank information.

  9. Richard W.

When will my stimulus money from ssi come on my Direct express card please let me know right away ty

    • V.V.

Hi Richard, thank you for using our blog. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May.

  10. CG

So much has happen in the course of a few weeks. First many was told you would need to file a simple tax return to get into the system to receive a stimulus check. Now they say you have to do nothing just wait it will come to you via what ever your normal banking means are you need not do anything.

My question is this those that did sign up on like the Turbo Tax none filers portal and are now stuck in waiting limbo will it still come via direct deposit or what ever means they use to get their monthly check? Or will they now have to wait for it to leave limbo be cleared by the IRS and be sent to what ever direct deposit institute they may have listed?
