Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

    • Terri

No unless you want to claim a dependent under 17 that was NOT claimed on ANYONE’S taxes or who receives SSI

      • Robert

So exactly when can I and others expect to see a deposit in our accounts? The IRS is not moving fast enough for SSI and SSA recipients who really can use this money now. I don’t want an estimate date like the beginning of May, I want an exact date.

  4. Mark M.

I have really been taken advantage of during this very trying time for our country I was eligible for the $1,200 stimulus package for checking and but a date of April 22nd to deposit it in my account only to find out that I had a letter in the mail stating that the state of Connecticut didn’t just keep part of the money they took all of it now I am so full with so broke that I am literally eating dry dog food why is it that people who owe child support are the only ones being debited for funniest furrowing Expedia Steff when they waived the taxes for people who owe can student loans the only ones that are exempt from having that money taken from them people who hold back child support yes I understand we owe it and we need to pay it but it would have been nice to at least have given us you have what we supposed to get how am I supposed to live I was counting on that money but I guess I’ll never get it President Trump and Congress you need to act I get SSI which is $783 a month that’s less than $10,000 a year I am alone before Parvati level I am below poverty level can someone please help mark meketsy

    • Fatima

Oh c’mon. You aren’t eating dry dog food. How was you eating before the said we’d get a stimulus? What did you do with your April 1 check? Never count money til it’s in your hand

      • Stevie

You didn’t fall for that dry dog food bit either? lol

    • Terri

I know you are full of shit. Dude you couldn’t even spell poverty right. Then again that is probably why you get SSI

      • Christina A.

I am not falling .For the dog food bit.Anyone expecting a stimulus check.Should be able to check. And to read. The fine print on elgibility. On the irs website.

      • david

SSI is just regular social security I think, it isnt for the disabled.

  5. Nickie A.

If you used the non filing tool your money will not go on direct express card it tell you on the social security web site

  6. William

Yes, I’m getting the same message for my wife and son. There on SSA and SSDI. I did get my date, it’s the 29th.

  7. Katrina C.

I’m my daughter payee she is 20 years of age she gets ssi direct deposit on to a debit card will she be getting a stimulus check

    • peter

Yes she will get it , you as a payee will have to do your job as balance it for her, and in my years when working in that kind of field parents kept the kids funds and not tell them cause they didnt know about an increase or what not , im not saying you im saying in general of speaking. And im sorry i speak my mind.

  8. david

Why is the irs mailing a check when I provided all my banking information for direct deposit? Wouldn’t that be quicker and cheaper for them?

    • Terri

Because you used the non filer when you shouldn’t have even though they said to

      • peter

I didnt use it so when should i be ? Ssdi

        • Christina A.

Anytime between now.And the next 20 weeks. The irs is mailing 5 million checks per week. For the next 20 weeks.Till all those elgible receiving checks get them.Use,the “Get My Payment”tool provided by the irs.It should give you a date for your check to arrive. And if doesn’t.You’ll have to patient and wait.

          • peter

Bad advise im not using get my payment” it will be on my direct express card why cause i waited and its going to be 29th ! If anyone uses that app guaranty it be in the mail and a longer wait no thanks im good, i ask to see what advice youd give, and it was a bad one

        • Terri

I didn’t either Peter and it say April 29 DD to my bank. However I use a credit union and it posted today at 2 p.m. CST

      • david

I didn’t do that actually. I wasn’t able to access the tracker till Friday, then entered all my information. I mean SSA has all my account details, too.
But the notice today was a check would be mailed May 1st.

        • Terri

David I wasn’t able to access it til this morning. That’s when I got a DD date for the 29th. I’m guessing that was to give it 48 hours to post. However my credit union TFCU and it posted at 2 p.m.

          • david

well, i wish they would have deposited it directly instead of mailing a check. I filed last year, they have my banking info through 3 government agencies now, I would hope that’s enough. Thanks for the information, though. At least I’m not going to be one of those who’s deposit was deposited in the wrong account.

    • pretzelattack

I filed last year so I didn’t see any reason to use a non filer tool.

  9. Sheila H.

I have no income because I’ve been fighting for disability for over 6 YEARS. Do I get any stimulus?

      • Christina A.

Please,go to the irs webwage.Try using the “Get my payment”tool. It should tell you the date for/and method you’ll receive your stimulus check. If that does not work.SSA recipients are supposed to be getting their stimulus checks.End of April.Into Early May.You cant be claimed on someones tax return. You have to have a valid social security number. And your income if your living alone needs to be under $75,000.To be elgible.
