Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I currently receive SSI,I was claimed on someone’s taxes for 2018 but I was NOT claimed in 2019 taxes will I get the stimulus check?

    • Terri

You will. However I have a feeling you were claimed again

  2. DEH

I finally figured it out, SSI recipients payments are being delayed so they can save a few cents. Even though SSI recipients for the most part are living on almost nothing. Minimum SSI is well under USA poverty guidelines. SSI recipients have been harmed more by hoarders than others as the hoarders buy up all the low end products, toilet paper, ramen, etc. that are what someone on SSI has to live on.

Anyway I’m sure the stimulus will come in one deposit with the regular May SSI payment.

    • Elena K.

If the epidemic hadnt happened nothing would of changed and we would still be living on same amount. Feel fortunate were still here to receive it

    • Fatima

DEH. Quit spreading lies. Damn. Checks went out to those who filed taxes and the working poor. WORKING. We are used to 1 check a month. Simmer down. If you paid your bills as normal you wouldn’t be in a dire SITUATION. Never count money til it’s in your hand

When SSI people going to get they $1,200check will it go on they green SSI card on the 1 st how Does that go and when

    • peter

That green ss card called direct express card. N ssi are supposed to be the first wk of may so it says ! And for me its 29th so it says on irs .gov we’ll see !

  4. Dssd

When will the people send the checks out its crazy they left the elderly last to get rhe checks they already have hard enough time getting food tp etc

  5. Lisa

I just went to the get my payment app and it says a check is scheduled to be mailed out on may 1st i thought it was gonna be deposited onto my direct express card?

    • Wanda

Mail wont take but a few days

      • david

yeah but nothing is guaranteed till the money hits the bank account. “the check is in the mail” is not a reassuring statement, mail gets lost for one thing. I can’t help but think it is related to all the problems they’ve had with depositing money in the wrong or nonexistent accounts so far.

        • peter

That’s Total a different situations in wrong account’s that was from tax payers not social security people ! The Treasury is the people who control direct express cards ! Those cards are the government, so they cant mess up, its the people who are messing up, giving wrong advice, we the people whom are on ss dont file anything nobody just wait a bit . if you do file expect it in the mail and yes mail does get lost more than the Treasury does in money

          • david

I’m not sure about Direct Express, but the government hasn’t had problems direct depositing money in my account before, whether from SSA or the agency I work for currently.

    • Terri

Lisa it would have. They really messed people direct deposit up. Had you of not used the non filer tool (even though they said to) it would have went on Direct Express card

      • peter

        When ?

        • peter

I will say when i get it or not on there due date

    • peter

Did you do a file on line?

      • david

peter do you know why they apparently decided to mail checks instead of depositing it in our bank accounts? I was first able to access the GetMyPayment tool Thursday, and provided all the information required, today the update is a check will be mailed on May 1st.
Given all the inaccurate information that has already been provided, this is not reassuring.

        • peter

Im going to wait n see for the 29th and some more wait after may 8th then i’ll make a decision what to do next, if i want to .thanks anyway !

    • Nickie A.

Did u use the non filing tool because I did and it said I was getting a check mailed to I’m on ssi

      • peter

No i didnt because it will go on my card as it has been stated 4–29–20 .thats a guaranty not the mail i been researching since then

  6. Crito

Hi Akerns. According to how you receive your SSI or SSA benefits recipients with direct deposit should receive payments between April 27th and May 1st. You can also check irs.gov. Hope this was helpful.

  7. Steve

Hi I’m trying to figure for us people who live in Pennsylvania and are disabled when will we receive our stimulus money? I know I read that we would receive our stimulus the same way we get our normal benefits but it also says sometime this week and the beginning of May.But every time I call my card it says that they have no information on the stimulus funds. Also every day when I get on line it says something totally different as to when we will get our stimulus money. I personally would like a straight forward answer to this along with an exact date.

    • peter

You wont get an exact date , its not like a done did deal thing, i can say what they gave been saying is ssdi 4–29–20 and ssi the first wk of may , thats what been told , and if you cant live with that its called oh well !

      • Wanda

I got an exact date peter. April 29th is when my payment is to be direct depozited from the..
        GET MY PAYMENT

        • peter

Get my payment does not pertain to ssdi or ssi or ssa in fact its for taxpayers ! So your answer is wrong for social security people i looked it up get my payment lol ?

        • peter

Im not going on get my payment and put info in to screw-up my stimulus ck when its due in two days ! Nice try tho ! And i saw it has messed up some now its the mail for them as you say ONLY A FEW DAYS THE MAIL. ) .not you or anyone can or will mess me up, I’ve waited this long i will wait some more and its not like i need it that bad , i got cash on hand ! And food and cable n internet. N a phone and ps4 and a 64″ flat screen t.v. w/ all around sound stereo, im very comfortable here 1,200 is a drop in the bucket to me but i will take cause they gave it . and if they pass 2,000 a month i’ll take too. ! Im not piss or angry i say it the way i see it , if i can help others i will in wisdom , .its call balancing !

          • Terri

Peter. I’m with you. I get $1776 SSDI a month. I pay my utilities cable internet and food when I get my deposit in my credit union acct. Even those who get $700 or whatever. They’ve made it fine this long. They obviously didn’t handle business on April 1st. I don’t be $1200. However since I’m entitled to it. I’ll respectfully oblige

    • Wanda

Check the Get my psyment on irs. My ssdi is set to be deposited on april 29th. Im not in your state but i dont think states matter

      • peter

Nope i dont think states matter, did you do a file on a app?

  8. Vicky B.

I was receiving ssd up until November 2018 so did not file taxes will my they get my info from them or do i need to fill out the non-filer taxe thing

    • Wanda

Are u saying u havent received ssdi since 2018?? Are u now working? Do u get ssi?

  9. Akerns

I receive ssi I was wondering if anyone knows a date in May we are getting out covid19 checks thank you for the help

    • Wanda

      1st week

  10. Ann

It is still wrong that if your child or someone else claims you that you are not eligible. We live on a monthly disability check and we should have been able to receive our own check it just so wrong.

    • peter

Is it wrong that PERSON claim you ,got a tax break from claiming you got , was that wrong or did that PERSON deserved to get a tax break? Cant gave it two ways , its one or the other , and since that person got a tax break should be giving you that money from it , or should they not ? You do know its called double dipping, and thats not fair ,

      • Wanda

To be claimed, thepetson claiming you is suppose to be paying at least half of your monthly expenses. If not.. they cant

    • Dssd

Ypu will not get it if you was claimed on someone elses taxes

      • Kenneth G.

I was claimed on someone taxes for 2018 buy NOT for 2019. Will I get the stimulus check.

    • Wanda

Was there a reason they claimed you? Thats always been rules for not getting refund as well. I’ve always said if somebody claims u please know why. They wont get your payment either
