Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I can’t Understand why people that get as,said, every month with a direct deposit is the last to get there stimulus payment. We should have been in with the ones who filed there taxes. I think that is ridiculous that’s all the income we get at least those that work have a one kind of extra income coming in we only have that once a month and we the very last ones to get and then it keep getting pushed bk to this day and that day now we all the way to may 5..Granted it is appreciated but help those that mostly would need it first. And then in top of that those that files income tax they got a few thousands to fall bk on we have nothing to rely on but that once a month. And our deposits is on file already it’s gov issued Direct Express and those that receive there benefits once a month so there should have been no need for us to have had to wait and still waiting the Treasure have all our info so we are just put on the bk burner until it’s convenient for them. WOW, but hats our gov for you…

I get disability oh, and I got the Direct Express Card. I have tried to do the information for my youngest who is only 15. But I need my PIN number because of identity theft. And I never received my PIN number in January to do the non file. And they’re not letting me file I try the website and I can’t call the IRS because nobody is taking calls. I don’t know what to do.

Question if you filed your 2018 and 2019 taxes and you rexeived ypur stimulus check what about your dependent that receives ssi that wasnt included in your stimulus check does he receive one as well if he is 17 yrs old

    • Cassandra L.

No I ask and they said no

    • Chameeka

If you claimed him on your taxes No he wont. Regardless of if he gets ssi he can’t be claimed on anyones taxes now if you didnt claim him then yes he should to what ever account he gets his ssi in if he does not have a account they will mail him a check

  10. Teresa F.

If I owe Social Security Disability any money will they take my stimulus payment to pay for it?

    • Brian P.

No it doesn’t count as income so they shouldn’t
