Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

Hi Angie, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

People on ssi or said and retirement mostly get the $ 783.00 s month that’s not even 10,000 a year and shpuld have been first to get these stimulas payments that’s below poverty .. yet we have to wait till our usually benefits to come in before we get our stimulas check.. our bills are more pressing because we have to budget every dollar. Thank you.

      Yes

  8. Debbie R.

I have a son who’s disabled and on SSI,. He’s my dependant and I’m his payee on his SSI and but he’s over 17. I got my stimulus money but I have not gotten anything for him. I can’t get no answers to what I need to do. Does anyone have an answer for me and what I need to do?

    • Lori

Since you claimed him as a dependant he will not be eligible for the $1200. BUT, go to the IRS.GOV site and enter his info as your dependant child so he will be eligible for the $500. Hope this helps.

    • Mr B.

since he is a dependent on your return he wont get 500.00 per child payment.

    • max p.

You don’t get anything for him, if you claimed him. Obviously you do,if he is your dependant.

    • Miyuki

Hey, so if a dependant is claimed that is age 16 years or older, they wont be eligible for the stimulus check nor would the person that claimed them be eligeble for the additional $500. in the stimulus bill that was passed, it excludes dependants aged 17 and older that were claimed on 2018 or 2019 taxes.

      hope this helps

    • V.V.

Hi Debbie, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

Don’t understand why Disable people that were claimed as a dependent on someone taxes can’t get the 1200.00 dollar stimulus check.

    • Tatiana M.

This sucks . im so mad how were we supposed to know this was gonna happen. I think we should still get it .

    • Laura L.

Because someone already claimed you. So they are not going to pay twice

    • Ann

The one who claimed you as a dependent.. Did get the 1200 dollars on you and them ..it would be a 2400 dollar deposit for them ..where they share the money with you ..you need check in on

    • peter

Do you know why ? Because who ever claim you on taxes got a break in their taxes giving them extra cash back on taxes to themselves thats why

    • Max

The same reason you shit in your diapers. It’s life.
