Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

My husband and I are on disability. We don’t file taxes, since were not required to anymore. Will we automatically get stimulus checks direct deposited in early May? Are we required to do anything online, like update information ? Thank you.?

    • V.V.

Hi Sherry, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

My son receives SSI and is claimed by me as a dependent does he receive a stimulus check.!

    • Terri

I have a two time felon, and a single working person in the same house and the felon and the working person at home got thiers already, but two others on Socail Security that live here did not recieve thiers.
Truly something is wronge, are we (people on socail security) not the lowest paid americans?
Why would the Government Pay Felons before ssi recipients?.
I guess us Social Security (people) mean nothing to our President and Felons get top Priority, makes no damn sence at all. And even Felons can check thier stimulas staus, but socail security people with the U.S Treasuries Direct Deposit, direct express cant get paid before Felons? What the hell is wronge?

    • Benjamin P.

I bet the felon and you describe them has worked more in there life than you SSI drawer

    • peter

felon dont mean squat, did they not serve their time ! Its bad enough what had happen they did there time , and that has no bearing .on stimulus ck’s . I’m glad they got the stimulus ck first, and you know why they got it ? There working people now earning money and paying taxes ! Did you ever think of that ? Stop holding grudges against people because you ain’t got .

  4. G. K.

I believe that the government means well and good to our countries people who deserve the stimulus checks but I hear that there are a few of us that are receiving checks illegally in the country and I can’t believe how our country has to put up with this type of outrageous behavior. Only because of your here and are a law abiding citizen than that’s what you deserve not some scam artists like these young punks today that say that they are born and are legal citizens. Our country looks for us.

When can I get my stimulus ch6

  6. K

I’m a disability recipient who has no spouse and/or dependents and still no stimulus. I also have friends who receive social security or SSI and also have no dependents or spouses and they still havent received their stimulus either. Where is it

    • peter

Its in a bank getting federal interest from it banks gotta make money too

    • Terri

I’m sure it will be soon. They “claim” SSDI end of April. SSI first week of May. If anything we gotta wait til our normal deposit. I get SSDI $1776 2nd Wednesday of the month. $1200 on that day would be awesome. Stressful times? Yes. However we will be ok. It’s coming. Just taking longer than expected. Those working or made a lot on SSI Vet benefits Military retirement who were required to file was 1st. Yes the poor should’ve been 1st. However in their eyes we are used to 1 check a month. Relax. It’s coming.

    • Lorina

All of the updates have said that people on SSI or Railroad Retirement benefit should see their payment around the middle of May if you’re direct deposit, closer to the end of the month if you get your check mailed.

  7. Tamika.G

I recieve ssdi, and have 5 children.. So will I receive $500 for all five children?

    • peter

Nooooo only up to three kids didnt you read the info ?

      • Benjamin P.

Not right all kids 17 and under

    • Renard L.

I believe you will but gave to file untaxable income form 1040

      • peter

If she file a 1040 tax form , from being in ssdi , of that no taxes were taken out , she will have to pay taxes on that file amount then when the deduction are used where do you think she end up on ? Paying taxes back ! So where’s the savings there’s none, since being on ssdi dont have to file taxes, she’d be better off getting that 1200.00 and the 500 per child up to three with a total of 2,700.00 for a stimulus ck , she would never reach that by filing taxes on a 1040 ,

    • Benjamin P.

Yes if you Field out the non filers on the IRS.gov website

    • Gwendolyn M.

No it’s capped at 3 children hope this helps.

    • Terri

Yes ma’am as long as no one claimed them on taxes and or they don’t already receive SSI

  8. Douglas

I get Social Security disability the money that I get barely last me as it is I can’t believe that I can’t even get it a definite answer on the IRS page that tells me whether I’m going to even get this money or not you know I think that the people at that are hurt that are old that are retired two people who could really use the money should have gotten in first that’s just me I’m probably stupid though because apparently you just don’t see that our government is ass backwards I don’t understand it be nice if you just gave us a definitive date so we knew when we were going to get this stimulus check that seems everybody and their brother is already got

    • Rand L.

I agree they could care less of us ELDERLY. Guess they hope well die first..
