Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. 

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

    Its time that this country takes care of the elderly. Why are the very people that paid taxes all their lives the last to receive their stimulus payment! Young people who only worked 1 to 2 years got theirs before the elderly. shame on this government for not thinking of the very people who gave up their hard earned income to run and fund this country!

    I’m on SSDI and been getting my payments through direct deposit, why in HELL haven’t we been the first to get the payments. My monthly benefits are due to be deposited on my debit card this,week will it all be at once. And don’t act like you don’t have my information. A BIG ‘F’ IN AN ELECTION YEAR FOR THE PRESIDENT. AND THE VETS??????????

      Yes you will recieve your when your normal benefits are placed on your card .listen to what the prompt says !!!!!!

        Marc, that is not true, I recieved my SSDI deposit for this month and did not and have not recieved the $1200 stimiluas check yet.

    It seems like I’m getting my leg pulled here. I have direct deposit and I’m checking it daily. Thank God there’s a food bank not too far away. They always have pork and ham though. I don’t eat that too much and try to stay away from it. I need to get some wholesome food on the table. My health is being taxed along with the food and groceries I usually buy. Waiting for the next pay day, what else is new…

    I received SS check every month i am retired. I recived my payment every money by direct deposit by SS
    Nevet recived my 1200 why

      Hi John, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

      Agree. I paid my taxes for ‘19 & still no deposit check. IRS page locked me out after not recognizing my zip code. Frustrating &
