I am looking for a part time job. Before I commit to a job, I want to know how much money I can make each year without affecting my social security payments.

  6. Linda

I am planning to apply for social security benefit soon.
I would like it to have 2023 COLA, should I start my application for December 2022 effective date or January 2023?

    Thank you very much!

    • Ann C.

Hi, Linda. Thanks for visiting our blog. Please bear in mind that the decision on when to apply for benefits is a personal one. We can only provide you with the information to help you make the best choice according to your own situation. Also, we will not know if there will be a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2023, and if so the amount of the COLA, until the Department of Labor releases information on inflation for the past year. For the latest news and updates on Social Security, please check out our page at http://www.ssa.gov.Typically, the increase, if there is one, will begin with benefits that Social Security beneficiaries receive in January of the year affected. Increased SSI payments will begin in December of the previous year. We hope this helps.
