Social Security Administration LogoThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is taking steps to provide a significant enhancement for my Social Security account holders, by introducing secure digital access to their Social Security number (SSN). This innovative feature is designed to provide the American public with a modernized, secure, and accessible alternative to the traditional physical SSN card.

SSA is committed to improving service delivery while safeguarding Personal Identifiable Information (PII).

The digital SSN feature will allow account holders to conveniently display their SSN, when needed, for reasons other than handling Social Security matters. This enhancement will provide individuals who have forgotten their SSN or misplaced their SSN cards a simple solution allowing them to securely view their SSN online through the my Social Security portal. This will reduce their need for an in-person visit and/or having to wait to receive their SSN card through the mail. They will be able to access it via my Social Security on their mobile devices. This digital feature not only streamlines the process for those who need their SSN but also reinforces our dedication to protecting sensitive information. By providing a secure digital option, SSA aims to reduce the risk of lost or stolen cards and enhance the overall user experience.

“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure. We believe that this modern approach will meet the needs of our constituents in a more efficient manner.”

SSA encourages all account holders to take advantage of this new feature, which will be available starting early this summer. For more information on how to create a my Social Security account, please visit https://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/.

Together, we are working to create a more accessible and secure future for all Social Security beneficiaries.

As expats, neither I nor my 92 y.o. husband can any longer access our SSI accounts. We had access a few years ago. So I cannot see that further digitalisation will be helpful. Helpful would be more staff and more access ( for example by phone) to the local benefits unit in Frankfurt!

This is a waste of time and money. As so many of the trump ideas have been, we need him gone.

I could not agree more! TRUMP, NEEDS TO BE GONE. HE IS A RESTLESS, MANIC, BULLY. A TIME BOMB WAITING TO GO OFF. SO MANY LIVES, ARE AT STAKE, WITH HIM IN OFFICE. THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD, AND HIS NAME IS NOT, DONALD TRUMP.

Would love to know how much this DOGE effort has cost us. How many tech bros were paid millions to create this option??? Instead of adding new features to a website that already works well for many people who are somewhat tech savvy, why don’t you address all the issues that people who don’t know how to use technology are experiencing. Try reading all the pages of comments here to see how many people are unable to even login because they have problems with ID.ME and try to fix that problem. No one asked for this.

I am thankful to be a witness to your efforts to improve customer service. On Friday of last week, I needed to figure out why my Soc Sec check was not deposited in my account this month. I was shocked to be speaking to a person in 2 to 3 minutes. She was very pleasant and extremely helpful in helping me know what I need to do to resolve the problem. Way to go guys! Its not just talk. You are backing up your words with actions!! And we appreciate it.

Great news I just retired April 10. I sorted my process for Medicare and retirement benefits March 20. They are now telling me instead of the 30 days. They said it would take to process which would been April 20. It’s going to be now May 20 or June 20. Great progress. Way to go I think we’re gonna get this out to six months before we can get anything processed

What I want is some reassurance that my SSN and all my private information HAS NOT been taken by DOGE and is NOT being sold or used for any purposes other than serving my own account.

I do not like the fact that my number will be on line easy for hackers to get it if it is on your phone or online on you tablet, pc or laptop. But we do not have the right to disagree with DOGE or Trump and the stupid changes they are making to our government.

Trump, Musk and Doge are seeking to make our information SAFER. They are also getting rid of Fraud, Waste and Theft which will make the SS program last longer for those behind us. They have already uncovered almost a Trillion Dollars in Fraud and Waste. I can’t imagine anyone objecting to that. Try to listen and reason for yourself instead of listening to the News tell you what they have done. The changes are for our good – they are not stupid.

I sign into my account and I cannot see my SSN verification anywhere.
Who is to say and agency or employer would accept this digital verification.
Hope you did not spend too much time or our money on this.

Look at the quote I copied from the 2nd to last paragraph of their release above and pasted below. I highlighted in asterisks the timeframe it will become available:

“SSA encourages all account holders to take advantage of this new feature, ****which will be available starting early this summer****.”

If it’s on your phone, it’s on Google, pics, txts, phone #s, everything. Secure input means nothing, if it’s on a phone.

Thank you, President Trump for securing our social security site. I normally do the 2nd means of ID on many of my online accounts. I do not use a cell for financial or personal accounts but understand that is all some use. I encourage them to make sure they have double or triple ID for access to avoid any fraud! Thank you!
