Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

It does not eliminate tax, it adds $1000 to singles deduction and $2000 to married deductions. Why is this not specified on the Social Security website?

This is a totally deceptive and political statement and should be removed from the SSA website.
The bill only provides a temporary tax deduction for Social Security beneficiaries and is only a drop in the bucket for most of us. To say that paying income taxes on Social Security benefits has been eliminated is nothing but a blatant lie.

Has this ever been attempted before?

It’s a blatant lie. The truth is that there is a $6000 deduction for those age 65 from your gross income. It all but disappears if you make $75K and completely disappears in 2028.

Whoever wrote this is a bald faced ass kissing liar.

You might as well be on your knees to finish the job you started with this email.

My understanding is the $6000 tax credit is for anyone age 65+ (with other qualifications) and not just social security recipients. The Social Security Administration has NO BUSINESS and is OUT-OF-LINE for posting praise on partisan legislation! I resent the use of tax-payer funds for promoting/praising a specific political legislative agenda. The tax credit itself may be good (or not), but in either case, Social Security Administration SHOULD NOT be a vehicle for promoting a partisal political agenda.

Is it a $6000 taxable income deduction or a $6000 tax credit? Those are completely different things!

This sounds like something right out of a Donald Trump rally in an airplane hanger.
