Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

No details are provided. Nearly 90% would benefit is not a detail. Please send out a new email with the specific details about who will benefit with income levels . Plus define what income you are talking about, ie gross income, adjusted gross income, taxable income etc.

This article regarding the benefit of no taxation on SS Income for 90% of recipients, falls short of explaining the actual benefit, how it will work.
    Not helpful at all.

    Mostly lies and propaganda.
Did the government use social security funds for this political message?

    Is this information correct?
It implies that SS benefits will no longer be taxable for most people AND there is also an additional deduction.

“The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. Additionally, it provides an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older …”

If 90% of SS recipients will not have to pay tax on SS income, who will still be taxed?

SSA is welcome to communicate updates on SS benefits, but not with a political bent. There is no legislation called One Big, Beautiful Bill, and there is no evidence that it is a landmark piece of legislation. This bill (and Trump) have done nothing to protect Social Security by their failure to address the funding shortfall that is ahead of us by phasing in delayed retirement ages to receive full benefits and removing the cap on earnings upon which FICA is taxed as well as more fundamental structural changes.

How is the $6,000 amount in the Bill deducted from Income Taxes? How does the calculation work?
