Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

This bill will hurt those on Medicaid. It will also hasten the insolvency of Social Security Benefits in the next few years. Many individuals on Social Security already do not pay any taxes. No relief or benefits for them since these same individuals depend on SNAP and Medicaid which are being reduced. Tax relief for the elderly and lower income families are minimal compared to the wealthy in our nation. However, I do applaud the temporary relief for the middle class. But remember, it is only temporary.

I voluntarily deduct 10% of my wife’s Social Security because I still work and we file jointly. Should I submit the form to stop withholding 10% immediately or wait?

This information goes against everything we have been told! Will this provide benefits for the lower income group of Americans?

This is actually not true. There was NO reduction in social security taxes. There was a $6,000 tax deduction for seniors making 75k or less. How can you print such misinformation?

With all our current medical expenses and funeral expenses, if this really reduces tazes on our SS Benefits, it will really help. I can only hope that it does what is advertised in reducing the taxes on our SS benefits.

You could have made this more informative by telling the cut off for income limitations.

So my guess is right…. That this will only help those with a reported income of over some high dollar amount that dies not include poorer Americans? Of course that little detail would be withheld if true!
