Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Hello, it says the new bill will eliminate federal income taxes for most beneficiaries. Who would be excluded from this?

Thank you. This site is really stupid. It allows users to ask questions, but it doesn’t answer them. These are good questions that I see. No answers in the preceding bulletin either. Something feels fishy.

    Disgusting.

Celebrating this bill for seniors when it also removes billions from services seniors use. Not to mention that seniors are not the only ones using Social Security.

What of SSA recipients who would now have to pay more for healthcare after the catastrophic cuts to Medicaid and Medicare? Whose children are removed from food assistance? Who rely on the now cut SNAP benefits to eat? Whose family members are at threat of being placed in the internment camps the bill funds? Who may be forced there themselves?

This celebration is completely and utterly shortsighted, and I am appalled that a service that provides for so many poor, disabled, and elderly Americans who are utterly backstabbed by this bill instead celebrates its passing.

Shame on you, Mr. Bisignano. Shame on you, whoever wrote this post.

And shame on this country’s government, for turning its back on the people who helped build this country just to give billions to surveillance and tax breaks for wealthy people who have so much money that social security doesn’t matter to them.

    THIS IS MISLEADING!

No, the recent spending bill does not entirely eliminate income tax on Social Security benefits; instead, it introduces a new, temporary tax deduction for seniors aged 65 and older designed to significantly reduce the tax burden on most Social Security beneficiaries, while still allowing for some income-based taxation for higher earners.

Key details about the tax provision:
    Not a full elimination:
While the bill aims to provide substantial tax relief to seniors, it does not completely remove taxes on Social Security income for everyone.

    Targeted deduction:
The legislation includes a new tax deduction for individuals aged 65 and over, which in the Senate’s version is $6,000 for individuals and $12,000 for couples. This deduction phases out for those with adjusted gross incomes above $75,000 (individuals) or $150,000 (couples).
    Temporary measure:
This tax deduction is temporary, with the Senate proposal set to expire in 2028
